The First United Methodist Church of West Pittston will be holding an apple festival on Saturday, September 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Featured at the apple festival include: flea market, book sale, bake sale, silent auction, Kid’s Korner.

Pastor Bryan Rosenberg has recently joined Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 1150 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, as pastor. He and his wife Peggy, formerly from the Kutztown area, welcome everyone to join them in worship on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. Children’s church and child care are provided. The Feast Day of our Mother of Sorrows is today, Sunday, September 20. The Feast will begin with a High Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Rocco’s Church. The Procession will commence at 3 p.m. when the statue will be venerated through the streets of Pittston. Traditionally this event began 95 years ago, by local relatives who left a town called Serradifalco, Sicily. They came to this country and settled in the Pittston area.
The kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with homemade apple pie and ice cream as the featured item. For more information, please call the church office at 655-1083.
The Moosic United Methodist Church, 602 Main Street, Moosic will be holding a Craft Show on the Green on Saturday, September 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shop for those special holiday gifts and items designed by local crafters. The next monthly First Friday Reparation Vigil to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary will be held Friday October 2 at St. Joseph’s Oblate Seminary in Laflin. Father Paul McDonnell will serve as host for the vigil. Young adults are most welcome. Devotions begin Friday evening at 8 p.m. with recitation of the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, during which time confessions are heard. Meditation of the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary will also take place at this time. Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated at 8:55 p.m. followed by benediction, litany and consecration to the Sacred Heart. Vigil continues with the crowning of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue, World Apostolate Pledge, Fatima prayers and consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The vigil concludes with scapular enrollment at 10:15.
St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, Old Forge will hold its annual yard sale and ethnic food sale on Saturday September 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have a wide variety of items to offer. Ethnic food will include halupki, halushki, pierogies and kielbasa sandwiches. A bake sale will also be featured
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Pittston, will host their annual Nite at the Races on Saturday, October 10, in their parish center banquet hall located on William Street, Pittston. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., races begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $9 per adult. No one under 21 years of age admitted.
Plenty of food, beverages and door prizes will be available throughout the evening. Special cash prizes will be raffled off during the evening. If anyone is interested in purchasing a horse at a cost of 410 each, you may call the rectory office during office hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 654-6902 or pick up a form at the entrances of the church/parish center. Each winning horse will receive $50. Deadline for your entry is October 5.

SS. Peter and Paul’s Church will have their centennial celebration Mass Sunday, Sept. 20 at noon at the church, 1000 Main St., which will be celebrated by the Most Rev. John Dougherty, retired auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Scranton.
The celebration will continue at 3 p.m. with a dinner and live entertainment at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, 1073 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre. Admission to this event is $50 and includes hors d’oeuvres and a four-course dinner with your choice of chicken or fish as your main entr�e.

St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church will host a Christian rock concert Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the church, 314 Main St., with music provided by the band Choose This Day. In lieu of an admission charge, concertgoers are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, which will benefit the Scranton Rescue Mission. The public is invited to attend and enjoy a night of great music and fellowship.

The Confraternity of Catholic Women of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville will resume its meetings on Sunday, September 20 at 2 p.m. in the church hall. The “Catholics Defending Life” prayer team of Scranton will be conducting a 40-day prayer vigil at the Planned Parenthood offices located at 316 Penn. Ave., Scranton, from Sept. 23 to Nov. 1.
During the daily vigil presence outside of Planned Parenthood, prayers will be offered for an end to abortion and for the respect of all human life from conception to natural death.
Vigil hours are planned for the following times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, are to be announced.
An opening Mass for the pro-life vigil will be offered on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. at nearby St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., celebrated by Passionist Father Ed Buchheit. All faithful are welcome to participate in this peaceful, prayerful apostolate intended to change hearts on the abortion issue. The first CCD class will be on Monday, September 21. All students are asked to meet in the Main Church prior to 6:00 p.m. for opening prayer and classroom assignments. Classes will be held throughout our Parish Campus and will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evenings. All students will be dismissed to the courtyard between the church and the school building right after classes for parent pickup. Items for the flea market can be dropped off at the parish garage Saturday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We cannot accept clothing, large furniture, TV’s. Electrical items must be in good working condition.
There will be a meeting of all Harvest Tea Hostesses on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. in the parish office. All money raised at this tea will be used for Msgr. Gray Merit Award given each year to the most outstanding senior in our parish. Call Dorothy Shea Yazurlo at 655-0200 with any questions.

The members of St. Mary’s/SS. Peter and Paul’s Youth Club would like to welcome its newest members Caroline Dowdell and Kelly Schmidt.
St. Mary’s/SS. Peter and Paul’s Youth Club is currently conducting a teddy bear drive. The public can deposit new or fairly new teddy bears in the collection containers in either of the church vestibules or at either rectory. The teddy bears will be donated to the Geisinger Pediatric Unit. Lori Ostrowski is the youth group coordinator.
Classes for St. Mary’s/SS. Peter and Paul’s Churches’ joint religious education classes have begun. Classes for First Holy Communion students (second grade) meet Sundays from 9-10:30 a.m. Classes for students in grades K-8, with the exception of second grade meet Mondays from 4:30-5:45 p.m. All classes will take place in St. Mary’s School, 742 Spring St.
The parishioners of St. Mary’s Church are currently selling the harvest edition of their Pot of Gold Match the Daily Number raffle tickets. For just $10 per ticket, you will have a chance to win $75 daily and $100 on Fridays throughout October. You will also have a chance to win $250 on October 1 and 15, and $1,000 on October 31. The winning number is based on the evening daily number of the Pennsylvania Lottery. To purchase a ticket, please call St. Mary’s Rectory at 457-3412 or SS. All high school students from St. Mary’s/SS. Peter and Paul’s Churches are invited to a fall kick-off youth group meeting today from 6-9 p.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 620 S. The Music Ministry of Saint Peter’s along with musicians from the community will present the church’s Second Annual Festival of Music. The program will include a well-rounded variety of selections that will be sure to please everyone, featuring traditional and gospel hymns for congregational singing and selections performed by the church choir, soprano soloist Patricia Quinn of Wyoming, mezzo-soprano soloist Kristen Vogt of Slatington, and baritone soloist Rev. James Breese, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pittston. The program will also feature violinist Alecia Melia of Rockaway, NJ. Michael Sowa is organist and music director at Saint Peter’s. He will be assisted by guest organist, Christopher Prestia, of Wantage, NJ. Melia, Prestia, Sowa, and Vogt are undergraduate students in Marywood University’s music department.

The Feast of Our lady of Sorrows will be held on Sunday, September 20 beginning with a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Rocco’s Church. A procession through the streets of Pittston will begin at 3 p.m. Members of all societies, altar servers and parishioners and friends of St. Rocco’s Church will attend this yearly tradition.
St. Rocco’s Cub Scout Pack #303 will start their weekly meetings on Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m. in the church classrooms. Boys in grades 1, 2, 3, 4,and 5 may join by contacting Mrs. Karen Gaffney at 654-6021.
St. Rocco’s Christian Mothers will resume their monthly meetings on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the church classrooms. Cathy Turonis will preside. The members will attend the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, September 26.
