St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston, 13th annual flea market and ziti dinner continues today, Sunday, August 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is held in the church hall, 205 North Main Street, Pittston.
This is one of the largest, cleanest, well-known indoor flea markets in the area that attracts people from all over the valley. There will be an array of flea market items such as jewelry, household needs, books, Christmas, small furniture, toys, and other every day needs.
In conjunction, a ziti dinner will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ethnic food such as pirohi, piggies, haluski as well as the all American hot dog will be available, along with coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
There is ample parking in the church lot. The public is invited to attend.

A benefit Concert featuring Bob White will be held at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 317 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston on Sunday, August 16 at 7 p.m. White who is the lead singer for the band, 3rd Degree, began his singing career with his sister and brothers, who competed in local, regional and statewide Sunday School music competitions as The White Family, winning awards at every level of competition.
The concert will be for the benefit of White’s daughter Ashley, who is raising support to sing with her college choral group touring Europe in 2010. Ashley is a student at Nyack College in Nyack, New York, majoring in music missions. The concert is open to the general public. An offering for Ashley’s support will be received during the concert. St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, corner of Winter and Church streets in Old Forge, is sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Saturday, August 22 from noon until 3 p.m.
Tickets are limited and a few will be available at the door. Price is $9 per dinner. Tickets can be purchased by calling 457-7778, 562-3695 or 457-9280. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Take out only.

Our Lady of Mt and Carmel and St. Rocco’s parishes announce the beginning of a joint program for 2009-2010 for all our parish children grades K-6. To ensure that your children are enrolled in our joint program and that their religious instruction will properly prepare them to receive the Sacraments and to become full members of our church, we ask you to fill out the registration form and return it your parish no later than August 28. Please submit anew form for each child. The Religious Education program is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 9 and 10. Classes will be held on Wednesdays for grades K, 1, 2, and 3 and on Thursdays for grades 4, 5, and 6. We will be utilizing classrooms at both Mt. Carmel and St. Rocco’s. There will be a parent/guardian meeting for all CCD participants to go over the program requirements and scheduling.

The mass schedule for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary is Friday, August 14 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. The Feast of the Assumption is regarded as a harvest celebration. Saturday, August 15 is the Feast of Our Lady’s Assumption into Heaven. Because the Holy Day falls on Saturday it is not considered a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in the Chapel for those who would like to celebrate the feast.
Registration for religious education will be held in the auditorium of Seton Catholic for two weeks immediately after the 10 a.m. Mass, Sunday, August 16 and Sunday, August 23.
