St. Michael’s the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston, will celebrate its feast day with a divine liturgy at 9 a.m. today, Sunday, November 8. Mass will be celebrated by Reverend, G. Scott Boghossian, pastor

A holiday kick-off jewelry trunk show featuring designs by local artists is set for the weekend of November 14 and 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church of West Pittston. The annual holiday event is held in the church community room at 220 Montgomery Ave. An Elegant Bake Sale is also slated with hundreds of holiday dessert items packaged to go. The event opens 10 a.m. both days and closes at 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Oblates of Saint Joseph Lay Cooperators Society will host their annual pasta dinner next Sunday, November 15, at Saint Anthony’s Parish Center, Erie St., Exeter, from noon - 4:00 p.m. (takeouts from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m). Price of tickets is $8.00 - adults and $4.00 - children under 12. Tickets will be sold at the door or are available at the seminary office (654-7542). The dinner benefits the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary, Laflin. All are welcome to attend and support the Oblate Fathers. A roast beef dinner will be held on Sunday, November 15 to mark the occasion from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church hall, 205 North Main Street, Pittston. The dinner will consist of roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, coffee, tea or soft drink and cake for dessert. Cost of the dinner is Adults $8 and children $6 under 10. Take-outs will be available any time during the dinner hours. In conjunction with the dinner, a raffle with many prizes will be held.
The public is invited to attend.
The Christian Education Committee of the First Presbyterian Church, 97 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre is planning its 15th annual Alternative Christmas Craft Fair for Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the church.
The Alternative Christmas Craft Fair offers families an opportunity to spend time together, making items such as wreaths, and purchasing hand-made crafts from local artisans, as well as third world crafts made in locations around the world. The Women of the First Presbyterian Church will also be having a bake sale. A light lunch will be available.

The First United Presbyterian Church of West Pittston, 115 Exeter Ave., West Pittston, will be holding their 2nd Annual Craft and Gift Fair on November 14. Doors will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This multi-level event will be host to dozens of vendors, selling a large variety of goods, including jewelry, art glass, crocheted baby items, homemade purses and lotions, and well name brands such as Lia Sophia, and Mary Kay. We invite all to join us to enjoy the wonderful crafts presented by local vendors for your holiday purchasing pleasure.

The Holy Rosary School PTO will host their annual Toyland Bingo on Friday, December 11 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. Toyland Bingo is a very important annual fundraising event. Proceeds from the event benefit the educational needs of our students.

A community blood drive will take place in the church hall on Sunday, November 15 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The American Red Cross is giving all presenting donors in the month of November the chance to win a $200 grocery shopping spree.

An evening of healing with guest speaker Kathleen McCarthy will be held on Monday, November 30 at 7 p.m. Her message of the Father’s merciful love and Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist, and the power of the Holy Spirit has touched hearts. The evening will begin with Rosary followed by music and praise featuring the choir directed by Jenn Johnson.
Mr. Robert Brideau has singularly carried on for years the work of propagating devotion to St. Maria Goretti through the publication of a novena booklet and holy cards as well as encouraging enrollment in a prayer guild. He has presided over this work from his home in Ontario, Canada and funded much of the work on his own. For many years he traveled to Laflin with a delegation of devotees and friends for the Feast Day of Maria Goretti. . He has reached out to us as parishioners of St. Maria Goretti Shrine to take over his work. There will be a meeting of any person interested in assisting us with the Novena Apostolate on November 14, Saturday, at 2:00 p.m. in the parish office.

Food donations can be left in the boxes in either of the church vestibules. Monetary gifts can be given to the food bank by placing a gift in an envelope marked food bank and dropping it in the collection basket at any weekend Mass.

On October 26, the members of the Youth Group of St. Joseph’s Church of Wyoming and Our Lady of Sorrows Church of West Wyoming, treated residents of the Laurel’s Personal Care Home in Wyoming to some Halloween fun.
