St. Michaels’s flea market next weekend

St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston, 13th annual flea market and ziti dinner will be held on Saturday, August 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday August 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Parish Community of St. John the Evangelist, Pittston, invites you to its Tenth Annual Parish Bazaar. It will be held, rain or shine, from August 13-15, on the corner of Church and Broad Streets in Pittston from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. There will be plenty of delicious ethnic and American foods, crafts, children’s games, and variety booths. There will be a gigantic flea market, jewelry booth as well as a book and DVD sale in Seton Auditorium. Entertainment on Thursday will be provided by Polka Punch, Friday by Somethin’ Else, and Saturday by Flaxy Morgan and the Pat Ward Magic Show. Jim Dillon is General Chairperson. The event will be held in the church hall, 205 North Main Street, Pittston.

This is one of the largest cleanest well-known indoor flea markets in the area that attracts people from all over the valley. There will be an array of flea market items such as jewelry, household needs, books, Christmas, small furniture, toys, and other every day needs.

In conjunction, a ziti dinner will be held both days, Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be a bake sale on Saturday.

Ethnic food such as Pirohi, Piggies, Haluski as well as the all American hot dog will be available, coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

There is ample parking in the church lot. The public is invited to attend.

Chicken Barbecue

St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, corner of Winter and Church Streets in Old Forge, is sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Saturday, August 22 from noon until 3 p.m.

Tickets are limited and a few will be available at the door. Price is $9 per dinner. Tickets can be purchased by calling 457-7778, 562-3695 or 457-9280. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Take out only.

Rummage Sale

Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church Center and Rock St. Hughestown will hold their annual Rummage Sale August 13 from 4 to 8, August 14 from 2 to 8, August 15 is Bag Day 9 to 1. Lots of treasures for everyone. Residents and friends are invited.

During the five weeks from Sunday July 5 up to and including Sunday August 2 the members of the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church and the Moosic Presbyterian Church along with their Pastor the Rev. Dr. Susan Ezelle have decided to combine worship services. The combined services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church.

This decision has been reached by a vote from members of both congregations as the sanctuary in the Langcliffe Church is air conditioned. This is in no way a precursor to closing or a merging of the two churches it is simply a measure of comfort during the warmest time of summer.

In addition to air conditioning, the Langcliffe Church is handicap accessible and nursery school is provided for young children. Anyone is welcome to worship with us.

First Friday Blue Army Vigil, August 7, beginning at 8:00 p.m. with confessions, Mass to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and devotions to the Blessed Mother. Public is invited to attend this monthly prayer vigil, which concludes at approximately 10:15 p.m.

A new Senior Citizens group for our area, known as the "St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club" has formed and held their first meeting last Wednesday. They will meet every second Wednesday of the month, beginning on Aug. 12, at 2:00 p.m. The group is open to all senior citizens of the area looking to meet new friends and plan social activities. A Catholic youth group is being formed within the parishes of the Pittston cluster at the Oblates Seminary, Laflin. An outdoor picnic meeting is being planned on the seminary grounds on Thursday, August 27. Details will follow in the coming weeks ahead. Youth who have already received Confirmation are welcome to join the Pittston Catholic Youth Group, under the direction of Father Paul McDonnell, OSJ.

First Thursday Holy Hour for Vocations will be held August 6 at 7 p.m. at the Oblates Seminary Chapel, Laflin. The Holy Hour includes exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recitation of the rosary, sermon, intercessions and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

A trip is planned onboard the new Celebrity cruise ship, Equinox from Sept. 22, 2010 to Oct. 7, 2010.We will fly to Rome, where we will board the ship and set sail for Greece, Israel, Sicily and Naples. Tuesday is the feast day of St. John Baptist Mary Vianney, the patron saint of all priests, especially those who are in parishes. In June, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI has declared this year a special year for the Priest. Masses at St. St. Anthony of Padua Church will be celebrated at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

All parents anticipating the Baptism of their first child must attend Baptismal instructions before scheduling the Baptism.
