United in Marriage

Amanda Balent and Douglas Zupko were united in marriage on September 20, 2008, at St. Cecilia’s Church, Exeter, by the Rev. Daniel Hitchko.

The bride is the daughter of Joseph and Sharon Balent Jr., of Exeter. She is the granddaughter of Joseph Balent Sr., of Swoyersville and the late Marion Balent and the late John and Albina Gaydos.

The groom is the son of Diane Zupko of Swoyersville. He is the grandson of Daniel and Lottie Chipego of Swoyersville and the late Helen and John Zupko.

The bride was escorted by her father. She chose her sister, Ashlee Balent as her maid of honor and the groom’s sister, Sandi Ragukas as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Melissa Shinko, friend of the bride; Sarah Jasterzinski, niece of the groom; Beth Ann Regukas, niece of the groom.

The groom chose his brother, Jeffery Zupko as his best man. Groomsmen were Bob Ragukas, brother-in-law of the groom; Brad Munley, friend of the groom; Andy Balent, cousin of the bride; Bobby Ragukas, nephew of the groom. Readings were given by MaryJo Gavlick, aunt of the bride and Jill Derwin, aunt and godmother of the groom. Gifts were presented by Melanie and David Gavlick, cousins of the bride.

A bridal shower was given by the mothers of the bride and groom at Convention Hall, Pittston. The mother of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Rinehimers, Restaurant, Plymouth. An evening cocktail hour and reception were hosted by the parents of the bride at Conventional Hall, Pittston.

The bride is a 2001 graduate of Wyoming Area High School. She is employed at the Laurels at Wyoming.

The groom is a 1998 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School and a 2004 graduate of Luzerne County Community College with an Associates degree in criminal justice. He is currently a senior at Misericordia University where he will be obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in business this coming December. He is employed at Bank of America, Moosic.

The couple resides in Wyoming.
