Unbeaten Coughlin knocked PA out of the District 2 Class 2A playoffs 6-2 on Monday in the muddy Bog in Miner’s Mills. Coughlin (14-0-1) advanced to play Western Wayne. Pietro Colella and Tom Allardyce scored for the Patriots, who ended their season with a 12-5 record.
First-year coach Pat O’Boyle had mixed feeling about the season after the Patriots lost two of their last three. “To be honest, I don’t know what to say about it. I haven’t assessed it yet. 12-4 we made the playoffs. Good bunch of kids with seven seniors who at least got a crack at the playoffs before they left. I guess you can call it a success, but I think we could have done some things differently against Lehman.”
The Patriots lost to Lehman 3-0 in the regular season final in a game that decided the division title.
Wyoming Area finished 5-11. The Warriors Mark Bugelholl was the Division II points leader with 60 on 23 goals and 14 assists. PA’s Dan Scatena was the goal leader in the division with 26 and he was second to Bugelholl in points.
