Exeter Panthers C win super bowl, go unbeaten

The Exeter Panther C-team finished the 2009 season at 11 – 0 winning the Wyoming Valley West Youth Football Super Bowl on Sunday, beating the Kingston Township Raiders 14 – 0 at Lake Lehman field. The game was a defensive struggle until midway into the second quarter when Panthers’ quarterback Robbie Trottini completed a 25- yard pass to Matthew Silinskie, who made two defenders miss and ran 40 yards for the first Panther touchdown. The two point conversion failed.

Excellent defensive play in the first half by Captain Jake Urban, Alex Gonzales, Blaise Ciampi, Mark Bulford, Jason Mapes, Brett Bednarski, Damien Bronsburg and Jake Sarnak kept it 6 – 0 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Raiders drove down to the Panther 10-yard line but the Panthers made a defensive stand led by Jake Urban and recovered a fumble on 4th down

In the 4th quarter, the Panther defensive secondary of Cole Bresnahan, Matthew Silinskie and Robbie Trottini knocked down several pass attempts and tackles were recorded by Jake Urban, Matt Foersch, Damien Bronsburg, Brett Bednarski, Ethan Rash, Bruce Rowlands, Alex Gonzales and Blaise Ciampi.

On a 4th-and-20 with three minutes to go in the game Trottini rolled to the right made three defenders miss and ran for a 60-yard Panther touchdown. The two point conversion was scored by Matt Silinskie on a run up the middle with strong blocking by Alex Gonzales, Cole Bresnahan and linemen Damon Barhight, Jake Sarnak, Ray Driving Hawk, Blaise Ciampi and Matt Wycoski. The final score was 14 – 0.

During the season, the Panther defense allowed only 34 points in 11 games and had 8 shutouts, including two in postseason games. The offense scored 36 touchdowns and averaged 22 points per game. The coaches wish to congratulate the players for a great season and the parents, fans and cheerleaders for their support. The Panthers would also like to thank the Exeter, Wyoming and West Wyoming Fire and Police departments for the parade after the Super Bowl win. And thanks go out to the Wyoming Area School Board for their support and to Randy Spencer, the WA coaching staff and the Warrior players who spent time with our Panther players this season.
