The league will have sign-ups on today from 6-8 p.m., on the second floor of the borough building. Girls ages 8-14 can join. Any girls in the surrounding areas can join our league also. Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold a meeting today at 7 p.m. at the upper Avoca Little League field clubhouse. Board of Directors are asked to meet at 6:30 p.m. Plans for the upcoming season will be discussed including tryouts and opening day. Last chance for registrations will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Registration fee is $50 per player and $60 per family. Junior and senior teener baseball signup fee is $50 each player.
The West Pittston Little League will hold tryouts for major boys today from noon to 2 p.m. minor boys. All players trying out must attend at least one session.
The Moosic Mets Elite Traveling Team will hold its second round of tryouts on Sat., April 17 and Sun., April 18 at Connell Park in South Scranton time will be 9 a.m. to noon on both days. All players from the first tryout are asked to attend plus all new players.
Baseball players 13 years old who will not turn 14 years of age until May 1, 2010 or later and interested in trying out for the Greater Pittston American Legion Developmental Baseball Team must contact Head Coach Ronald Musto at 654-5737 or rmusto369@comcast.net. Players from Exeter, Exeter Township, West Pittston, Wyoming, West Wyoming, Pittston, Hughestown and Pittston Township ( West side of the Pittston By Pass ) are eligible. Those players signed up for Teeners are welcome.
A Meeting of the Patriot Wrestling Club will be held at Pittston Area High School, March 29, at 7 p.m. Nominations of officers will be held for next year’s season. All wrestling parents are invited to attend. For further information call 654-0251.
The 2010 season of the Northeast Free-Style Greco Roman Wrestling Club will begin Thursday, March 18 at Pittston Area High School gym. Sign-ups will be held Thursday, 6to 6:30 prior to the first practice session. Practice sessions will be each Tuesday, and Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through June 2010. The Wyoming Area Diamond Club will be hosting “Meet the Warriors” today at the Wyoming Area Secondary Center Cafeteria. There will be a mass at St. Anthony’s Church, Exeter, at 11 a.m. with introductions and refreshments to follow at the secondary center cafeteria. There will be a Chinese Auction, 50/50 and much more. The event is open to the public.
The Pittston Area Boys’ Basketball Booster Club’s banquet is today at 5:30 p.m. at Arcaro & Genell’s in Old Forge. All players were given reservation forms to be returned by March 6. Contact K. DiMaggio at 825-5238 as soon as possible for reservations.
Wyoming Area Football Parents’ Association is having a meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. in Room #129 at the high school. All parents of players in 7 thru 12th grade are encouraged to attend. Any questions, call Nick P. at 693-3293.
The GP Y will sponsor AAU Travel Hoops this year on Saturdays and Sundays from the end of March through May. The spring travel season begins as soon as school ball is over and the teams are selected. Tournaments are played on Saturdays and Sundays from the end of March to the end of May with 3 to 4 games per weekend. Practices will be held twice per week on the week of tournaments and once per week on the off-weeks, plus an extra Sweat Shop session once per week.
The age groups and tryout dates are as follows at GPYMCA:
Boys 4th grade (10U) and 5th grade (11U) – Wednesday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
Boys 6th & 7th Grade (12U) (13U) – Wednesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Girls 4th grade (10U) and 5th grade (11U) – Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m.
Girls 6th & 7th Grade (12U) (13U) – Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.
If you are a baseball or softball player, the GPYMCA will guarantee you that the travel team will not interfere with your in-season sport.
