Old Forge sophomore J Argonish (22) tries to control the ball during a playoff game against Mt. View earlier this year. The two-year starter for the Blue Devils became the first soccer player in the history of the school to be selected as a LSL Division III first-team all-star.

Just two years into their existence, the Blue Devils – coming off its first-ever post-season - notched another first when sophomore J Argonish became the program’s first, first-team all-star.

Argonish was selected to the Lackawanna Soccer League Division III Coaches All-Star first-team when it was determined two weeks ago.

The second-year starter played midfield primarily this season, but was also used as a striker on offense. He finished sixth in the division in scoring with seven goals and an assist for an Old Forge team that finished 5-5-2 in division play.

“I am very proud of him,” said Head Coach John Argonish – and J’s father. “He moved into a new position this year and did a great job not only scoring but was very physical in that position which was something we had hoped for. We knew for us to be successful we would need him to be our quarterback out there.

“But he also played a variety of spots this year depending on where we needed him in certain game situations. He is very unselfish and is really starting to understand the game.”

Argonish has started every one of Old Forge’s 25 varsity soccer matches in its short existence. He joins Matt Rava and Bruno Iriarte as all-star members of the program. Rava and Iriarte were selected LSL DIII second-team all-stars in 2008.

Coach Argonish hopes more of his players will be recognize as the program grows.

“I think we had two other guys that deserved at the very least to make the second-team,” said Coach Argonish. “But that happens when you are a new program looking for recognition.

“We shouldn’t have that problem next year.”
