The 26th annual Pittston Tomato Festival got off to a rousing start Thursday evening with what many vendors were unofficially describing as a record-setting crowd. Food vendors were mighty busy throughout the festival grounds sampling everything from pizza to pasta fagioli, from calamari to cannoli, from ravioli to rice pudding, and everything in between.

Vendors and festival-goers alike kept an eye on the weather late Thursday afternoon but a brief sprinkle gave way to sunny skies. The festival, which continued through Friday and Saturday, concludes today with activity getting underway at 11 a.m. and continuing through 10 p.m.
More than 50,000 people traditionally attend the four-day festival.
