It was the summer of 1968. I was bouncing a basketball past Stanley Grontkowski’s funeral home on West Main Street in Plymouth. “Stash” came out and yelled for me to stop. He said he needed a manager for a team in the Plymouth Teeners’ League – a team made up of kids not much younger than my 17 years at the time. I was late for a pick-up hoops game at Huber playground, so I said I’d do it.
