Previous to joining The Times Leader Scranton Edition, Shelby interned and worked at The Abington Journal, also owned by Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co.
In November of 2007, as a soon-to-be intern, Shelby began working with The Abington Journal helping with the 60th anniversary edition. Shelby officially started her internship in January of 2008 and continued until April of 2008, covering Clarks Green and Abington Township meetings, writing school, community and even some sports stories.
Before her internship ended, she was offered a part-time position with the paper. Until April of 2009, she worked as a part-time employee at The Abington Journal, working on every special section, covering AAJRB meetings, writing school and feature stories, breaking news stories, and working on ongoing coverage. In total, she wrote 150 articles.
While at The Abington Journal, Shelby was a recipient of a Keystone Press Award for the Sports Event Coverage for her first-person adventure learning to ride a BMX bike.
Originally from Florida, Shelby grew up in Scranton where she still resides.
In her spare time Shelby enjoys cooking and reading. She is also currently working on a novel she started as her senior Capstone project at Keystone College, entitled “Penny Candy.”
