Clinton Township and Factoryville Borough’s Joint Municipal Park and Recreation Board is in the process of seeking grant money for an anticipated project that would install a “green” parking lot at the municipalities’ park on Creek Road.
On May 16, administrative coordinator Liz Ratchford told Factoryville council members that the board would seek grants through PENNVEST and Going Green in order to fund the project. The parking lot, Ratchford said, would be constructed by laying a sub-base of gravel along with interconnecting plastic waffle grids that would support cars. The lot would then be seeded with grass. Because the park is not used in the winter time, said Ratchford, the area would not be damaged by salting or plowing.
Green parking lots are used to reduce impervious cover and storm water run off. Ratchford did not yet say how much the project would cost. She said she hoped that the board could join with municipalities from Luzerne County to qualify for funds for the project.
The Clinton Township/Factoryville Borough Joint Municipal Park and Recreation Board will next meet on June 3 at 7 p.m. in the Factoryville Library. Factoryville’s Shadetree Commission will meet on June 5 at 2:30 p.m. in Factoryville’s Borough Hall.
