Chinchilla Post Office considers move

Nathan Urie Abington Journal Reporter

SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. - The Chinchilla Post Office, located at 102 Shady Lane Road in South Abington Township, is considering moving to a new location. South Abington supervisors reviewed the issue briefly at their June 22 meeting.

“We’ve been attempting to help them find a suitable and larger place,” Township Manager David O’Neill said. “Currently the post office is leasing space from the township.”

Once legal processes and requirements are met, the office could be moved across the street to McCarthy’s Florist Shop, 555 Northern Blvd., in the first floor of the building.

“The legal paperwork is going before our commission,” O’Neill said, referencing the planning commission meeting this Thursday, June 25.

Supervisors also motioned to approve a bond reduction for the Preserve at Gravel Pond Phase I to $79,000 and accepted a $42,000 grant from Lackawanna County to aid the construction of the handicapped restroom facility in South Abington Park.
