SCRANTON — An area priest has been removed from his duties after church officials say he accidentally displayed inappropriate pictures from his computer before Sunday Mass.
The Diocese of Scranton said the Rev. Edward Lyman was using his computer on Oct. 25 to project an informational DVD about the annual diocesan fundraiser when four photos were displayed. They featured what church officials describe as “minimally attired adult males.”
Diocese spokesman William Genello said the photos were not pornographic, did not include minors and were not taken by the priest.
Lyman has been removed as administrator of St. Anthony, St. Bridget and St. John the Baptist parishes in Throop. The diocese would not say where he is.

This is AMAZING, and another reason to change religions--I know one should "turn the other cheek" but do we have to view both of them during Mass?

Hahahaha, this is a joke! The church can't even hide all the gay priests in the ranks anymore, they are outing themselves at church even!…. Unbelievable! How many more priests need to have their names in the papers before the church realizes they have a lot of gay men for clergy, not all, but a lot, Nothing wrong with it, but lets just be realistic.

It is a shame this is happening to all too many churches in the area. I cannot believe such a small town has to go though something like this as in the next 3 weeks they are losing 2 of their churches due to the consolidation and to have their priest doing this to them. what a shame

If homosexuality is a sin in the church and remember the big stink martino made about the speaker at the college, then how can the church keep and or have homosexual priests? Can you say HYPOCRICY boys and girls. And you sheeple who keep giving to this orginization are so completly blind to what is going on. Do you really think that giving money will buy you a place in heaven? if you do, there is no hope for you. After all you can't fix stupid.

Considering the total number of priests there are in the world, compared to the number of priets you always hear about in the media who are committing acts of crime, fraud, homosexuality, etc., the actual number of 'priests gone wrong' is actually very small. Just as with anything else, the media and today's society often prefers to highlight the bad and rarely about the good. Just as you cannot judge an entire race based on the actions of one man, so you cannot judge the Catholic church as a whole based on the actions of one bad priest.

When will this stop? I have tried my best to stay loyal to the church and to support all the good it does do, but these type of situations, which we hear about day after day, is making that impossible. The church needs to stand up and admit its problems and devise a real solution to this problem. Lets start with married men on the alter. Married men leading and teaching our children. Married men advising young couples as they prepare to marry. married men preacing to FULL churches...the solution is obvious.

Terri: You think homosexuals should go to jail huh?!! I'm guessing you live in America!! & Former Catholic: All religions (and indeed most other sociable groups) will have members who occasionally like to look at scantilly clad men. One in eight of us is homosexual, so changing religions won't solve that problem. Try giving religion up tho, the world will start making more sense I promise =)

You know, this whole situation is a shame! Obviously, it's a shame for faithful Catholics who will yet again bear the brunt of the callous and ill-advised comments of everyone. It's a shame for this man's parishioners, many of whom found him to be a wonderful pastor and a gentleman. And it's also a shame for this priest. And, admittedly, a shame on him, as well. But let's ask ourselves how many of us could be guilty of the same thing? We set our priests up as models of absolute goodness - a model that very few can actually follow - and then mock them when they fail. The Church, all who lead it, and all who call themselves members are human beings, and that makes us capable of bad judgements and, well, sin. Let us somehow find a way to hate the sin while still loving the sinner.

@Terri, are you dumb or just unable to fully read? He didn't break any laws so the idea of jail makes no sense. Ironically the church is proving it really doesn't understand homosexuality any more than it does heterosexuality.

Jailing the priests? For what? Removal is appropriate since the priest no longer has credibility with his congregation, but no crime has been committed. Priests are human like everyone else and just as fallible. I do not think that priests are more likely to be gay than any other person, but stories of gay priests get sensationalized by the media so it just seems that way.

So, I'm confused, what exactly is it that this guy did wrong? He accidently displayed pictures on grown men who were not naked. If he weren't a priest the comments most of you idiots are making would be called hate speech. And you'd be the ones calling it that, you hypocrites.

hmmm - i wonder if he would suffer the same consequences if the pictures were of women in bikinis? what is wrong here, the fact that priests have a sex drive or the fact that they can be attracted to other men - or both? Terri wants to put him in jail - interesting - i didnt know that being attracted to the same sex was a crime. The article did say they were adult males, right?
November 3, 2009 at 2:39 PM

If the diocese spokesman indicates the pictures were NOT what he is saying they were then why was the priest removed from his duties? Get real. Dig deep people someone has to bail us out of all these law suite. File for bankruptcy like they did in DE. Close all the Catholic Churches down.

its obvious Catholics seldom read the bible or they would know that homosexual activity is against the teachings of Christianity. The Catholic Church admits that at least 30% of its priest are Homosexual the real number is closer to 50%. I for one do not want these "Men" anywhere near my children. I know I know I'm a hater, but I'm a hater that's going to make sure that no priest molests my child.

we need to have all priests sign statements that they are not gay. The ones who refuse should be defrocked. The solution is so simple. You can't have priests who are destined for hell anyway.

Wake up and just go on your daily life without the need for a organization that will verbally send people to hell becuase of their choices and when it hits home.. The church does nothing but covers it up.. Where is Captin Martino now? THE LORD SHALL SMITE THOSE WHO DIS OBEY THE SECOND COMING OF A LUNTIC CALLED MARTINO...
