KINGSLEY – Defending champion Lackawanna Trail and first-time qualifier MMI Prep won semifinal matches Monday night at Mountain View High School to advance to Wednesday’s District 2 Class A girls’ volleyball championship match.
Second-seeded Lackawanna Trail won the first match, 25-13, 25-23, 25-22, over Forest City. The Lady Lions recovered from 7-0 deficit in the third game of the opener.
Ashley Loss led Lackawanna Trail with five kills, six digs, 10 service points and five aces. Marissa Booth added four kills, two blocks and seven service points while Elizabeth Stuenzi had 11 assists, three kills and 10 service points.
Forest City was led by Kiersten Collins with seven kills and four blocks. Amanda Collins, who had five assists and Jessica Strickland each had three kills.
Senior middle hitter Brone Lobichusky took charge at the net with 24 kills and seven blocks to lead MMI to a 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over top-seeded Mountain View.
Diana Anthony had 21 digs and five aces as MMI continually gave Mountain View trouble with its serves. Lainie Titus, who had 27 assists, and Caitlin Ferry, who had 11 service points, each had four aces.
Alyson Klush added 14 service points and six kills.
Mountain View was led by Kayla Kazmierski with nine kills, four aces and two blocks. Alex Lynn and Kate Webster each had five kills while Melissa Monahan had four.
