Buckner appeal of life without parole in wife’s murder rejected

HARRISBURG — A panel of state Superior Court judges have denied convicted murderer Donnell Buckner’s appeal of his sentence of life in prison without parole in the March 2009 slaying of his estranged wife.Bucknell, 40, shot Kewaii Rogers Buckner, 31, three times in the head in her Lehigh Street home in Wilkes-Barre with their three children in the house.Buckner had claimed he “blanked out” when he shot his wife, and his attorneys argued he didn’t act deliberately, but rather on impulse because of his mental health issues. Prosecutors said Buckner’s shooting his wife in the head showed intent, and an expert for the prosecution testified that Buckner did not suffer from any psychotic illness.
