13-run, 6th-inning outburst lifts Newport to victory

NEWPORT TOWNSHIP – Newport broke open a 13-13 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a 13-run outburst to defeat Nanticoke, 26-16, in a District 16 11- and 12-year-old elimination bracket game.

Newport sent 19 players to the plate in the sixth inning, registering 13 hits.

Sebastian Maul hit three home runs and had 10 RBI for Newport, who will now face Hanover.

Also contributing for Newport were Aaron Scott (six for six with two home runs), Nick Valenti (5 hits) and Josh Walker (four hits). Walker was also the winning pitcher for Newport.

Kyle Gavrish, Matt Pawlowski and Jordan Williams all hit home runs for Nanticoke.

HANVOER 10, JENKINS TOWNSHIP 4

JENKINS TWP. – Mike Sulcoski had five strikeouts and also delivered a double at the plate to help Hanover defeat Jenkins Township in a District 16 11- and 12-year-old elimination bracket game.

Also contributing for Hanover were Peter Borum with a three-run homer and a single, John Yurkoski with two singles, Domminck Vitale with a single and a double, Michael Bugonowich with a double and Colin Slusser, Matt Kuhl and Mike Kreminic all with singles.

Jenkins Township was led by Josh Razvillas and Michael Schwab, both with doubles.

District 16 Major Softball

Mountain Top 14, Jenkins Township 5

MOUNTAIN TOP – Joelle Brozoski and Ashley Hassigner each drove in two runs during a 7-run second inning as Mountain Top defeated Jenkins Township.

Ashley Casem pitched six innings and struck out five for the victory. Casem also had two hits for Mountain Top as did Rachael Ritz.

Kaya Swanek, Elana Falcone, Sarah Ruby and Ashley Hurtt all had two hits for Jenkins Township.

District 16 Junior Teeners

North Wilkes-Barre 11, Avoca/Dupont 4

Aaron Andrews went 4-for-5 and Brando Gilvary went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead North Wilkes-Barre past Avoca/Dupont.

Dylan Concini picked up the win on the mound.

District 16 9-10-year old

Plains 16, Duryea 0

PLAINS TOWNSHIP – Noah Gebhardt pitched a 2-hit shutout to lead Plains past Duryea.

Andrew Lenkofsky, Tyler Kurilla, Josh Gartley and Jacob Khalife all had multiple-hit games with extra base hits and RBI. Additional hits and RBI were supplied by Devin Razja, Gebhardt, Ryan Crossin, Leroy Fettig, Robert Viteritti, Nick Kopko and Bryan Casterlin. Sam Sebia preserved the shutout with a diving catch in the outfield.

Ryan Flanagan and James DeBoard each had a hit for Duryea.

Hanover 24, Ashley 1

ASHLEY – Hanover used an all-around team effort to defeat Ashley.

Heights 13, Newport 3

NEWPORT – Decoda Wolfe struck out seven and got the win while Sean Paul Williams reached base three times to lead Heights past Newport.

Josh Benscoter played outstanding defense for Newport. Brian Mansilla, Nick Bukorski and Nick Kowalski all had singles for Newport.

Jenkins Township 11, Pittston 7

JENKINS TOWNSHIP – Matt Havrilla, Nick Allardyce, Jerry Scatena, Terrane Ashby and John Jones all delivered hits as Jenkins Township defeated Pittston.

Jeff Donnora and John Garvey pitched for Jenkins Township.

Delivering hits for Pittston were Joe Morrocco, Carmen Falcone, Tyler McGarry, Josh Mesarris, Jason Homschek, Tyler Jackson and Marcus Shatrowkis.

Mountain Top 11 East Mountain 3

MOUNTAIN TOP – Matt Mickowski pitched five innings and struck out 10 as Mountain Top defeated East Mountain.

Mike Vital had three hits, and Nick Sisko chipped in two hits and three RBI for Mountain Top.

Jane Montgomery knocked in two runs for East Mountain.

District 31 11-12-year-old

Plymouth 8, Northwest 7

PLYMOUTH – Drew Fegal knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Plymouth defeated Northwest 8-7 in a District 31 11-12-year-old elimination bracket game.

Also contributing offensively for Plymouth were Dave Chacke with two doubles, a single and 3 runs scored; Frank Pasqualichio with two singles; and Brandon Rayes with a double and two RBI. Fagel also had a double in the game.

Northwest was led by Devon Mazonkey with a double and Bruno Walkowiak with two singles.

Chacke picked up the win in relief.

Plymouth will now face Ed/Lark.

Ed/Lark 6, Harveys Lake 3

HARVEYS LAKE – Jeremy Sabecky had a home run and a single as Ed/Lark defeated Harveys Lake in an elimination bracket game.

Larry Andersavage and Justin Raitter each had two singles for the winners. Frank Brodie picked up the win.

Austin Harry and Tom Grudowski each had two singles for Harveys Lake.

Ed/Lark will now face Plymouth.

District 31 Minor Baseball

Forty Fort 5, Bob Horlacher 4

FORTY FORT – Tim Walkers pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out eight batters to lead Forty Fort past Bob Horlacher.

Leading Forty Fort offensively were Tino Alunni with three singles and Michael Conway, L.J. Wesneski and Adam McCue all with singles.

Connor Knot struck out seven batters for Horlacher while Cole Dickson and Kyle Baker had two singles each.

District 31 13-14-year-old

Greater Wyoming Area 13, Kingston 1

Kyle Colarusso and Rob Thomas combined for a no-hitter as Greater Wyoming Area defeated Kingston.

Leading Greater Wyoming Area offensively were Nick Perugini (3 for 4 with a double), Donnie Flannelly (2 for 3 with a double), Trent Grove (2 for 3 with two doubles) and Nick O’Brien (double).

District 31 9-10 year-olds

Kingston 9, Exeter 8

KINGSTON – Kevin Johnson was the winning pitcher and had two hits. P.J. Kubicki and Keaton Dolan both added a double and a single, and David McCue singled in two for Kingston.

For Exeter, Zach Laptka and Gavin Cross both had doubles for Exeter.

Ed-Lark 12, West Wyoming 3

Danny Kozick pitched 4 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven to lead Ed-Lark past West Wyoming.

John Grover had a home run and a double for Ed-Lark. Also contributing were Josh Ktytor with two hits and Tyler Yankosky with a triple.

Mike Sanfilippo had West Wyoming’s lone hit.
