Leading the way is last year’s District 2 champion in the 1,600-meter, Nate Zondlo, who along with Paul Williams heads a hard-working distance group that makes up the strength of our team. Jumpers Tony Carroll and Jason McCracken and sprinter Scott Sevison have district experience and will be expected to score big points for us. Throwing events will be very consistent with Joe Ardo and Pat Shea leading a balanced attack.”

Coach’s Comment: “We have many returning seniors this season; close to 12 or 13 who should be the key for us on the track and in leadership roles. …What is hurting us aside from weather and our outdated cinder track is the uncertainty of our season being at the stadium due to the impending construction. …We’re also low on numbers. Kids are running four events each. We’re not deep in events as I would like to be. Also, pole vault is going to hurt us this season.”
Coach: Austin Peoples, 3rd year

Coach’s Comment: “We have everybody back this season with the exception of (Hadvance), which is a big loss for us. We’ll need someone to fill his shoes, which Phillips or Gary should do quite well. The 4x100 relay is our strength, having taken seventh in the state in the event last season, but it will be difficult to get back there. We’ll do everything we can to get there, though.”
Coach: Al Weston, 25th year

Key Losses: Joe Stanek, Jeff Rafach, Matt Mastusak, Bill Corcoran, Jim Ellis, Jeff Broody, Tim Malloy

Coach’s Comment: “The team appears to be well-balanced with the return of several letter winners in many events. One area of concern is distance, where there are very few veterans but several promising newcomers.”

Coach’s Comment: “Last season was arguably the most successful track and field season in Lake-Lehman history. We are excited about the current group of athletes that we have returning this track season. The team should contend for their respective division title and several athletes have a chance to earn district gold.”

Coach’s Comment: “We have a nice combination of veterans and inexperience at the varsity level. The introduction of the junior high team has helped with the experience and depth problems. The boys junior high team was undefeated last year and many of those boys moved up to the varsity. We have a nice group of experienced distance runners and throwers, which will be our main strength. Sprints and jumps are inexperienced, but could surprise.”
Coach: Joe Pizano, 9th year
Last Year’s Record: 6-1
Home Track/Surface: Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium (6-lane/rubberized)

Coach’s Comment: “We should be very competitive in the league. Dallas was the winner last season and they have everyone back. Lehman also looks good, too. We should be competitive with those teams. Our weakness is in our youth. We only have five seniors on the team this season and we’re going to have to rely on a great deal of athletes with little or no varsity experience. Our strength, as always, is going to be in the field events. It’s basically what carries us.”

Coach’s Comment: “A big turnout of sophomores will boost our roster this year. Unfortunately, those sophomores are also first-year track athletes. We will be looking for our experienced senior and junior class to lead the way until they become accustomed to the events and practices.”
Coach: Jane Helman, 29th year

Coach’s Comment: “The team seems well-balanced with the cross country district champion Alyssa Namey leading the way. The junior class returns a trio of athletes who may be the best three in any class in a long time. They are state qualifiers Shari Bugonowicz, Jill Dunn and Amanda Kuhl. Kuhl returns after suffering a serious knee injury in 2007, but qualified for states in 2006 as a freshman.”

Coach’s Comment: “We have a nice team that covers many areas of the track. We have almost 40 athletes on the girls team, many of whom will contribute, but we’ll need some throwers to step up.”
Coach: Joe Pizano, 9th year
Last Year’s Record: 4-3

Our freshman girls revitalized this program over the last two years to make it what it is now.”
