U.S. air rifle competitor Thrasher takes the first gold medal at Rio Games

Virginia Thrasher of the United States took the first gold medal awarded at the Rio Olympic Games, in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event.

Thrasher, a 19-year-old from Springfield, Virginia, won a shootout to secure first place at the Olympic Shooting Center in Rio.
