District 2 runners excel in Class 2A boys

HERSHEY -- District 2 had at least one runner earn a medal in each race Saturday during the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on the Parkview Course.

The local district was at its best in Class 2A boys where three runners received individual medals and two teams finished in the top four.

Valley View's Aaron Wilkinson placed fourth for the best finish by a District 2 runner.

"I would have been thrilled with top 25," Wilkinson said. "That was my goal."

Any runner in the top 25 receives a medal. Elk Lake's Mike Bedell was 23rd and Holy Redeemer's A.J. Limongelli was 24th.

Defending state champion Elk Lake was third with 135 points and Holy Redeemer was fourth with 151. York Suburban outscored Quaker Valley, 76-99, for the title.

Elk Lake and Holy Redeemer had girls teams competing and also had individual medalists.

Maria Trowbridge was ninth to help the Elk Lake girls finish 11th out of 24 in Class 2A.

Rachel Sowinski was 18th to help Holy Redeemer place 19th in Class 3A.

Blue Ridge's Allison Hall was 11th and the Blue Ridge team was 22nd in Class 2A. Central Cambria and Lindsay Kerr of Northwestern Lehigh were the champions.

Sara Sargent at Pennsbury and Emmaus were the champs in Class 3A.

Reece Ayers was ninth to help Tunkhannock place 16th of 25 teams in Class 3A boys.
