Hanover boys stop South W-B, earn D16 title date

Jacob Peters had two doubles to lead Hanover to a 7-5 victory over South Wilkes-Barre during the District 16 Minor Baseball finals on Saturday.

Anthony Vitale and Jordan Choman added to the offense with two hits each.

Tony Molitoris was the winning pitcher.

David Nargoski and Paul Fox each had two hits for South Wilkes-Barre

Hanover will face Mountain Top today at 2 p.m. for the District 16 championship.

District 16 Junior Baseball

Plains 6, N. Wilkes-Barre/Bear Creek 2

Kyle Cunningham had three hits to lead Plains in the championship game.

Eric Meese was the winning pitcher. Mike Post was the reliever.

Alex Beaver led North Wilkes-Barre/Bear Creek with two hits.

DISTRICT 31 MINOR BASEBALL

Back Mountain American 15, Swoyersville 5 (5 inn.)

Jason Anderson had two hits, including a double for Back Mountain American. Adding to the offense were Charles Giacometti (3-for-3, double), J.D. Barrett (two hits) and Josh Holdredge (double).

Matt Mathers was the winning pitcher and had a triple.

Jarred Perdiaks (two hits) and Chad Romanoski (one hit) led Swoyersville.

Back Mountain American will face Bob Horlacher today at 2 p.m. for the District 31 championship.

DISTRICT 31 11-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT

Northwest 10, Back Mountain National 0

Zach Brucher (10 strikeouts) and Brendan Riley (two strikeouts) combined to throw a no-hitter as Northwest won its first district title in 26 years in the District 31 11-Year Old Tournament.

Brucher also added a home run, and Tyler Kolb and Brandon Reno had two hits each, including a triple.

Exeter 8-9 Tournament

South Wilkes-Barre 17, Plains 0

Will Wallace and Jonathon Evans combined for a no-hitter for South Wilkes-Barre.

Kyle Ostrowski went 3-for-3 and Kenny Macko 2-for-2. Charles Phillips and Nick Pugh added singles for the winners.

Kingston 14, Pittston Twp. 10

Kyle Footman had two hits, including a bases-loaded double. Stephen Banas, Jake Blaski, Nikko Simons and Danny Polachek contributed with two hits apiece.

Polachek, Blaski, George Williams and Simons pitched Kingston to the shutout victory.

Mountain Top-Orange 12, Plymouth 11

Mickey Palmiero went 3-for-3, Jai Hoover had a triple, and Noah Kulp and Brett Caladie both doubled in Mountain Top’s win.

Zachary Sharpe doubled for Plymouth.

Note: Mountain Top defeated Kingston on Thursday 2-1 on Brett Caladie’s game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Mountain Top Yellow 11, West Wyoming 0

Brandon Brozena combined with Corey Chalk to toss a 4 inning 1 hit shut-out. Colin Macko went 2 for 3 with a triple 5 RBI and a run scored. Henry Mago and David Steadele added base hits for Mountaintop.

Tommy’s Pizza Corner 9-10 Tournament

Forty Fort 13, Kingston 6

Zach Sott, Hunnter Maxwell and Matt Evans had three hits apiece for the winners, and Maxwell was also the winning pitcher.

Josh Moses and Sean Judge led Kingston with two hits each.

Nanticoke 6, West Pittston 2

Kyle Pokrinchak came on in relief to throw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. He helped his own cause with two hits and scored three runs. Also helping the Nanticoke attack with hits were Josh DelosSantos, Matt Labinski and Matt Piontkowski.

For West Pittston, pitcher Lucas Jurchak struck out nine. Brian Miles and John Rubino led the offense.

Gina Godlewski Memorial 11-and-under

Pittston Township 14, West Wyoming 0

Joe Deluca and Tyler McGarry hit homers for the winners, and John Fagotti, Justin Renfer and Brandon Walker combined to pitch a one-hitter.

Avoca-Dupont 5, Exeter 4

Mike Barney had a game-winning single in the seventh inning as Avoca-Dupont advanced. Kyle Turomis had three hits and scored twice for the winners, and catcher Aidan Jopling threw out two baserunners.

Steve Homza went 3-for-4 for Exeter.

Januzzi’s 11-12 Tournament

Kingston 11, Ed-Larksville 4

Winning pitcher Mike Mahalick struck out eight and Ryan Hogan (three hits, including a home run) and Bailey Endler (two hits) led the Kingston offense.

Chris Baranski and Cody Cordes had hits for Edwardsville/Larksville

Mountain Top 19, Hanover-2 7

Joe Grzech was the winning pitcher. Derek Sartini had a home run, leading a balanced attack for Mountain Top

Jes Sheridan hit a two-run homer for Hanover, and Jason Hogardch doubled and singled.

Plains-1 14, Ashley Newport 3

Mike Wozniak earned the pitching victory, striking out six, and had three hits to lead Plains-1. Teammate Ryan Decinti also added three, and four Plains hitters chipped in with two apiece.

Nanticoke 18, Wyoming/West Wyoming 1

Bryce Partlow had five hits and Benny Sersen and Steven Kreitzer added four hits each to lead Nanticoke.

Joe Olszyk and Serick Smith combined to strike out eight batters on the mound for Nanticoke.

Junior Legion

Swoyersville 15, Back Mountain 3

Joe Pechulis pitched a complete game, striking out five, in Swoyersville’s championship win.

Kyle Lewis led the offense with two hits and three RBI. Matt Zielen added two hits and four RBI.

Developemental American Legion

Mountain Post 5, Uwchlan 3

Winning pitcher Brian Markowski and reliever Matt Kaster combined to throw a four-hitter as Mountain Post topped Uwchlan in the opening round of the 13-Developmental American Legion State Tournament

Dominick Sartini led Mountain Post, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI.

Mountain Post plays today at 4 p.m. in Shillington against Concord.

Softball 8-9 Tournament

Mountain Top 10, Pittston-Avoca 5

Makena Gormley struck out nine batters in six innings to lead Mountain Top to a victory. Emily VanFossen and Olivia Grozio led the Mountain Top offense with a hit apiece.

West Pittston 4, Greater Wyoming Area 0

Sarah Holweg was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts. Olivia Vugelholl had one hit for West Pittston.

Aubrey Mytych had a double for Greater Wyoming Area.

District 31 9-10 Tournament

West Pittston 18, Bob Horlacher 16

Grace Angelella had three hits, including a triple and a double, to lead West Pittston. Jenna Harrison added to the offense with two hits, including a double.

Paige Mokychick had four hits and Chelsea Whitter had three hits, including a home run for Bob Horlacher.

Senior League

Mountain Top 21, Bob Horlacher 7

Five players had at least two hits and winning pitcher Tess Chupela struck out five as Mountain Top won the Senior Softball League Sectional Championship.

Kori Engler led the offensive output with three hits and three runs scored.

Ashleigh Nafus had three hits for Bob Horlacher.
