WILKES-BARRE – King’s College wrestling coach Ned McGinley posted the 400th win of his career on Saturday at the John Reese Duals at Wilkes University.
King’s went 1-3 on the day, but used a 19-12 triumph over New York University in the second round to present McGinley with his milestone victory. In his 41st season at the Monarchs’ helm, McGinley is 400-334-1 mark but several of his losses came early in his career when the Monarchs wrestled at the Division II level
King’s was led by junior Mike Reilly, who went 4-0 on the day. Reilly, who is ranked eighth nationally at 184, posted a pin, major decision, and two decisions on the day. At 174, freshman David Foley was 2-0 while fellow rookie Brendon Dwyer was also 2-0 at 197.
Wilkes University wrestling team had an impressive showing at the fifth annual John Reese Duals, winning three of four matches.
The Colonels posted wins over NYU, Scranton and Centenary while falling to Cortland.
The Colonels are 4-1 on the year.
The Cougars’ season came to an end with a loss to 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships at Salisbury.
Andrew Loyd made four saves in his career finale in goal.
Ali Ostrum ended her Misericordia University cross country career with an All-Region performance at the NCAA Mideast Championships at Lehigh University.
Ostrum (22:45) finished 21st to lead the Cougars to a 13th-place finish in the 42-team field, the best in school history.
For the men, Frank Redmond set a school record to lead the Misericordia University men’s cross country team to a 20th-lace finish.
The King’s College women’s cross country team placed 21st at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at Lehigh.
Junior Tori Posatko paced the Lady Monarchs runners by finishing 45th out of 311 runners with a school record 6,000-meter time of 23:31.4. Sophomore Molly Brown also shined, finishing with a personal best 23:56.9 to take 68th place.
The men’s team finished 39th. Sophomore Jeff Cort was the top Monarch runner, finishing 171st among a field of 314 runners with a time of 28:31..
The Wilkes men’s team finished 42nd in the team standings, while the women finished in 39th place in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at Lehigh.
The Misericordia University men’s and women’s swim teams were swept at nationally ranked Stevens.
The women lost 140-111 despite wins by Alicia Bryk in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Also in the 100 breaststroke, Juliann Barrington (1:19.75) qualified for the MAC championships for the first time.
For the men, Jeff Clark was a double-winner in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes while adding another pool record to his resume in the 100 (1:00.05).
The King’s College men’s and women’s swimming team fell to host Mount Saint Mary’s College in Newburgh, N.Y. The MSM women posted a 115-75 victory while the men won by a 73-29 count.
On the women’s side, Becca Smith won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:09.23, and was second in the 100 freestyle at 1:02.26. Maggie Nealer captured the 200 freestyle with a 2:10.78, and also won the 100 freestyle at 1:00.86.
For the men, Eric Stencovage won the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke at 1:02.92 and 1:08.92, while also placing second in the 50 free, in 24.69.
