Local sports agent passes away at 50

Local sports agent Charles J. Giacometti, 50, of Dallas, died on Monday.

Giacometti, a lifelong resident of the Wyoming Valley, was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School. After graduation, Giacometti attended the University of South Florida, and later went on to pursue a degree in law.

For more than a decade, Giacometti worked as a senior attorney adviser at the Wilkes-Barre social security office. In addition, he also represented a slew of professional athletes across the nation, including Harry Hamilton, Tom Robsock, and Greg Skrepenak.

Skrepenak, of Jenkins Township, hired Giacometti as an agent after his first year in the NFL.

“He gave everything he had, and he did everything he could for ya … he wasn’t about the flash, he was about the substance,” said Skrepenak. Giacometti represented Skrepenak until 2000 when he retired.

“He was a valued colleague and a dear friend … he will be missed greatly,” said Therese Hardiman, who worked closely with Giacometti.

“He would be someone that would put a smile on your face quickly,” Skrepenak said. “…He was just one of those guys that nothing seemed to rattle. ... He was fun to be with and he was an excellent agent.”

Giacometti left behind his wife Dawn, son Charles, 10, and daughter Anna, 11.
