Mountaineers boys finally win at home

DALLAS – It was a long time in waiting, but the Dallas boys volleyball team earned its first home win in more than two years on Wednesday after sweeping Pittston Area by scores of 25-7, 25-10, 25-5.

Tyler Coleman had 14 assists for the Mountaineers, while Mike Diaco added six aces, and Tyler Atherholt and Colin Grube had five kills each.

The Mountaineers improved to 3-1 on the season after finishing with just three all of last season.

Crestwood 3, Meyers 0

Eric Bogumil had 14 kills and two blocks to lead Crestwood to victory over Meyers by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-19. Pat Ellefson had 30 assists, six kills and eight service points, while Cameron Guignet had three kills, 13 digs and 10 service points.

T.J. Velinka paced the Mohawks with four kills and 10 digs. Huy Nguyen had 21 assists and 12 digs, while Wayne McCormick posted four blocks and three aces.

Abington Heights 3, Tunkhannock 1

Stephen Nicolosi notched 10 kills three blocks, nine service points and five aces to lead Abington Heights to victory over Tunkhannock by scores of 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13.

Sean Burger added 21 assists, four kills and one ace, while Seth Oravec had 11 service points, three digs and five assists.

Connor McClosky paced the Tigers with seven kills and seven blocks, while Sam Hill posted five kills and two aces. Seth Johnson had 14 assists and Eric Smith had 12 service points.

Hazleton 3, Berwick 1

Brandon Augustine (12) and Nick Opel (14) combined for 26 kills as Hazleton easily defeated Berwick by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-16.

Augustine also had five blocks as the Cougars remained unbeaten at 5-0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Berwick 5, Wyoming Seminary 3

Tricia Gunderson and Isabella Jaffin scored two goals each as Berwick defeated Wyoming Seminary in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division A girls soccer game.

Lauren Kemmerer also scored for Berwick (4-0), which stayed atop the standings. Devon Gagliardi had a hat trick for Seminary (0-4).

Ellen Arnaud struck twice inside a four-minute window of the second half as Dallas improved to 3-1.

Arnaud also had a goal in the first half. Tara Connors had two assists and Colleen added one.

Ivy Nulton gave Coughlin (3-1) a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Kristi Gabrielle assisted.

For the second consecutive time dating back to last season, neither Delaware Valley nor Wallenpaupack could score in 100 minutes of soccer.

The teams played two overtime ties last year, the first being a 1-1 final. DelVal keeper Brianna Kody made 11 saves and Wallenpaupack keeper Heather Michael stopped six shots.

why does is say 3-1 for Hazleton-Berwick, yet there are only 3 scores listed. it also says an easy win.
