Osgood made 29 saves Tuesday night. He also got help from the posts behind him to prevent a goal in both the first and second periods for the 50th shutout of his career.

The rebuilding Red Wings are 3-0-1 in their last four games and have a point in seven of their last eight games.

Tim Thomas had 24 saves for Boston, which fell under .500 with their third loss in four games.

The Bruins were in trouble after giving up two goals a few minutes apart in the first period because they have scored just three goals in their last four games.

Boston pulled Thomas with about 1 1/2 minutes left to add an extra skater and called a timeout in the final minute, trying to come up with a way to pull within a goal.

It didn’t happen.

The Red Wings were able to coast to victory after Zetterberg and Holmstrom scored at the 14:21 and 17:43 marks of the first period.

Zetterberg’s third goal of the season came 2 seconds into a power play after Pavel Datsyuk pushed the puck toward the net from the left circle off a faceoff.

Holmstrom’s eighth goal in 13 games came trailing on a rush after Datsyuk made a nifty drop pass off an up-ice pass from Todd Bertuzzi.

Thrashers 5, Canadiens 4

MONTREAL — Colby Armstrong scored 13:14 into the third period and the Atlanta Thrashers earned their first regulation win in Montreal in over five years, over the Canadiens.

Armstrong scored his second of the season to restore Atlanta’s one-goal lead just 24 seconds after Montreal drew even for the second time in the third.

Rich Peverley had a goal and two assists, including his third point of the game with a cross-crease setup pass on Pavel Kubina’s power-play goal that gave the Thrashers a 4-3 edge 4:10 into the third period.

Tomas Plekanec drew Montreal even at 4 with his fourth goal at 12:40.

Brian Gionta scored his second goal of the game earlier in the third to draw the Canadiens even at 3 after Mike Cammalleri launched Montreal’s comeback bid when he scored his seventh goal with 35.7 seconds left in the second.

Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves and Peverley increased his team scoring lead to 16 points. Kubina, Bryan Little and Mark Popovic each scored their first goal of the season for Atlanta, which had two shootout wins in its previous nine games in Montreal.

Lightning 2, Maple Leafs 1

TORONTO — Ryan Malone scored at 2:21 of overtime, giving the Tampa Bay Lightning a victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Malone tapped in an awkward shot that bounced over Jonas Gustavsson moments after John Mitchell nearly won it for the Maple Leafs on a pretty rush, with the puck nearly taking another funny hop into the goal.

Malone’s goal stood up after a video review.

Vincent Lecavalier also scored for Lightning (5-4-4), who won their first road game of the season (1-4-1).
