WILKES-BARRE TWP. -- The line of Tim Wallace, Wyatt Smith and Luca Caputi produced all three goals Wednesday night as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins downed the Norfolk Admirals, 3-1, in an American Hockey League game.
Wallace had two goals, Smith had a goal and two assists and Caputi had two assists.
The game was the first of four in five nights for the Penguins, who travel to Rochester Friday and return home to face the Syracuse Crunch Saturday.
Wallace scored goals 1:47 apart midway through the first period for a 2-0 lead.
"We have eight first-year guys in our lineup and that helped get us through the first of four in five nights," Penguins coach Todd Reirden said. "We played with the lead, stayed in the offensive zone and dictated the pace of play."
The Penguins built a 31-21 advantage in shots and gave up the only goal in a power-play situation in the final minute of the first period.
After a scoreless second period, Smith backhanded in a rebound 33 seconds into the third.
The Penguins played the third period without forward Joe Vitale, who suffered an upper body injury, adding him to the team's growing injury list.
With Dustin Jeffrey serving a team-imposed, two-game suspension, Reirden said the Penguins will need more roster adjustments.
"I think we'll have to go looking for more help," Reirden said.
Reirden said Jeffrey will play Saturday.
