WVC coaches announce all-star team

The 2009-2010 Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball head coaches announced their all-star team Saturday.

Holy Redeemer’s Monica Wignot garnered MVP honors, highlighting the first team. Rounding out the first team were Chelsea Malzahn (Delaware Valley), Kayla Jeckell (Crestwood), Brone Lobichusky (Freeland MMI), Maura McCormick (Holy Redeemer), Jordan Pickering (Crestwood), Casey Bohan (Wyoming Area) and Ashley Zalewski (Tunkhannock).

The second team featured Morgan Shelby (Abington Heights), Kellie Yekel (GAR), Krystine Beodecker (Delaware Valley), Mary Loughran (Holy Redeemer), Maggie Fruehan (Abington Heights), Ellen Matza (Lake-Lehman), Kristen Bell (Holy Redeemer) and Michelle Vowler (Hazleton).

The following were named to honorable mention Meghan Fraley (Abington Heights), Jessica Cleary (Coughlin), Carina Mazzoni (Crestwood), Meghan Murtagh (Dallas), Monica Esopi (Dallas), Nicole Illanovsky (Delaware Valley), Kristin Karas (Delaware Valley), Lainie Titus (Freeland MMI), Felicia Blaum (GAR), Stephanie Carlo (Hanover), Jess Batchler (Hanover), Lindsey Baranko (Hazleton), Meghan Baranko (Hazleton), Jessica Thorne (Hazleton), Carol Mosier (Lake-Lehman), Tiffany Oplinger (Lake-Lehman), Molly Morrell (North Pocono), Emily Appolonia (Tunkhannock), Sara Petokas (Tunkhannock), Shawna Soppeck (Wyoming Valley West) and Dawn DiMaria (Wyoming Valley West)

Lake-Lehman’s Kate Steele was named first team Defensive Player of the Year, while Lindsey Carl of Holy Redeemer and Diana Anthony shared the honor for the second team.

Bruce Young of Freeland MMI was named Coach of the Year
