NEW YORK — The Who will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl this season.
The NFL announced during Thursday’s game between the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys that the longtime rock band known for classic hits such as “Pinball Wizard” and “Baba O’Riley” will play Feb. 7 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.
Driven by singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend, the band’s two remaining original members, The Who gained fame in the mid-1960s and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
Woodson makes donation: Charles Woodson wants to be known as more than a football player.
Donating $2 million to the new University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital gives him a chance to do that.
The school announced Woodson’s gift on Thanksgiving before he played for the Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions.
Then, he intercepted two passes — returning one for a score — forced a fumble, recovered it and had a sack.
“It was a good day,” Woodson said after Green Bay’s 34-12 win in Detroit.
Pettigrew hurts knee: Detroit Lions rookie tight end Brandon Pettigrew left Thursday’s game against Green Bay with a left knee injury and did not return.
“I don’t want to say too much until we get more tests,” Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said after Green Bay’s 34-12 win. “But it is something that we’ll have to take a hard look at.”
Pettigrew was engaged with Packers linebacker Clay Matthews in the second minute of the game when his knee buckled. The injury was severe enough that several Green Bay defenders started waving the Detroit training staff onto the field.
