The all-day rain that arrived in the Wyoming Valley on Wednesday made for a soggy beginning for most Wyoming Valley Confererence field hockey teams.

Seven of the eight scheduled opening-day games were postponed by wet weather early Wednesday afternoon, and another was previously rescheduled.

That left the showdown between District 2 playoff semifinalists Dallas and Wyoming Seminary as the only season-opening game in tonw at 4:15 p.m. at Sem’s Klassner Field.

Games between Delaware Valley and Wyoming Area, Lackawanna Trail at Tunkhannock and Honesday at Pittston Area were moved to Thursday, while the game between Meyers and Holy Redeemer was pushed to Friday at Hollenback Park.

Meanwhile, the game between Hazleton Area and Wallenpaupack was moved to Sept. 16.

And games involving Northwest at GAR and Nanticoke Area at Hanover Area were postponed Wednesday, but no makeup date was set.

Wyoming Valley West’s battle against Crestwood in a match-up of two defending district champions and state playoff teams was previously shifted to Thursday at 4:15 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
