KINGSTON — Wyoming Seminary raced through the middle of the field on the way to goals throughout the first half Wednesday night.

With Kate Romanowski scoring four goals, the Blue Knights ran to the District 2 Class 2A championship with a 13-9 victory at Klassner Field.

“Our seniors don’t know what it is like to not win a district title,” Wyoming Seminary coach Catie Kersey said.

Nor do any Blue Knights in the history of District 2 girls lacrosse.

Wyoming Seminary has won seven championships in the district’s seven-year history.

The latest came by opening a 9-1 lead in the first half, then holding off a valiant comeback attempt by Lake-Lehman, which never got any closer than the final margin.

“I was very proud of our girls in the second half,” Lake-Lehman coach Ron Strohl said.

Wyoming Seminary, the unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference champions, dominated early.

The Blue Knights took the game’s first 12 shots and scored on four of them.

As the game opened up to Wyoming Seminary’s preferred pace, the team’s speed was on display.

Julia Gabriel picked up a groundball 15 yards in front of her own goal and sprinted the rest of the field for a 6-0 lead with 9:18 left in the half.

Emily Sims made her own length-of-the-field run to with 1:46 left in the half to make it 8-1.

Romanowski completed her hat trick by scooping a groundball near midfield and beating the clock to score with 2.6 seconds left. She was off and running on her final goal, going 70 yards off a restart to score for an 11-4 lead.

The last Romanowski goal helped Wyoming Seminary regain command after Lake-Lehman scored the first three goals of the second half.

“Julia and Kate, having their athleticism on the field is a tremendous asset for us,” Kersey said.

Sims and Romanowski scored 2:18 apart.

Abby Straub added three goals in the win.

Sims, Gabriel and Christina Kilyanek all scored twice. Kilyanek and Sims each had two assists.

Alicia Galasso and Hallie Jenkins each scored twice in the second half for Lake-Lehman. Jessica Evans scored the only first-half goal and led the team with two goals and an assist.

The Black Knights were the second seed in the tournament after finishing second in the WVC.
