Sr. – Medley/Fly

Moncayo fulfilled his underdog status with a pair of regional gold medals in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. He set a district record of 51.52 seconds with a come-from-behind win in the 100 butterfly. Moncayo knocked off seven seconds off his time to win the 200 IM in 1:58.69.

Josh Zawatski

Wyoming Valley West

Jr. – Sprints

Zawatski nabbed his first regional titles by sweeping both the 50 and 100 free races. He won the 50 free in 21.68 seconds. Zawatski followed with a 47.09-second performance to take the 100 free by over two seconds. In addition to winning two relay district gold medals, he was a part of the medley relay that placed 11th at states.

Logan Fluegel

Wyoming Valley West

Sr. – Fly/Back

A three-time all-star, Fluegel snagged his first individual gold in his final regional race with a 100 back title in 55.09 seconds. He swam faster than the district record, but fell short of a championship by seven-hundredths of a second in the 100 fly. Fluegel swam a PR of 51.27 seconds to take 16th at states. He won two relay titles, and his medley relay placed 11th at PIAAs.

Zac Rosencrans

Wyoming Valley West

Jr. – Breast

The Spartans’ junior won the 100 breast regional championship for the second straight season. He held off Hazleton’s Paul Flowers by nine-hundredths of a second. Rosencrans took third place in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.69. He swam for regional championships in the medley and 400 relays, and Rosencrans was a key component of a medley relay that placed 11th in Lewisburg.

Garrett Pall

Wyoming Seminary

Jr. – Distance

Pall was a key fixture on the Blue Knights’ district record-setting medley relay team. He swam the WVC’s fastest 500 free time (5:06.04) in his second-place swim. Pall swam the third leg of the medley relay that clocked in a 1:36.41 for a district gold. He placed fourth in the 100 fly in 54.03 seconds.

Stan Zaneski

Wyoming Seminary

Sr. – Sprints

Zaneski wrapped three state medals around his neck to add to his collection of nine district golds. He swept the sprints by clocking in at 21.28 and 46.51 seconds in the 50 and 100 free, respectively. At PIAAs, he placed third in the 50 free (21.09) and fourth in the 100 free (46.71). His Blue Knights’ medley relay broke a district record, and he swam on a 400 free relay that took sixth at states.

Alex Bushre

Tunkhannock

Jr. – Sprints

Bushre claimed 15th place in the 50 free at states, dropping more than a half-second for a time of 21.7 seconds. He took third in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 free at districts. Bushre anchored a 200 free relay that fell short of medal in 10th place. Bushre’s relay won a district championship in 1:30.93.

Sawyer Aitken

Tunkhannock

Jr. – Diving

Aitken repeated his success on the springboard. The two-time all-star finished second at the district diving championships with a score of 391.55. Aitken scored 303.4 points to take 14th place for the second-straight year at the PIAA championships.

Adam Mahler

Holy Redeemer

So. – Fly/Mid-Dist.

Everything went Mahler’s way this year with two district championships and a state medal. He repeated as district champ in the 100 fly, and he had the WVC’s fastest 200 free time (1:45.09) by six seconds. Mahler touched in seventh in pursuit if his first state medal in 51.02 seconds.

Matt Bean

Wyoming Seminary

Sr. – Back

Bean showed his prowess again in the 100 back by taking his second-straight district crown as part of Sem’s district-champion campaign. He won the race in 54.26 seconds. Bean capitalized on his success to place 14th at PIAAs with a PR of 53.64 seconds. Bean captured a state medal in the Blue Knights’ sixth place showing in 3:13.15.

Nick Dubinski

Holy Redeemer

Sr. – Breast

Dubinski ended his career a mere nine-hundredths of a second short of what would be his second state medal. The Royals’ breaststroke specialist clocked in at 59.06 seconds for ninth place. Dubinski erased more than two seconds off his seed time to earn second at states in the 100 breast.

Chris Michael

Berwick

Sr. – Breast

Michael capped his career with a fast swim in Lewisburg. He finished in 20th at states in the 100 breast, erasing eight-tenths of a second for time of 1:01.27. Michael earned third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free at the district championships.

Philip Mercatili

Wyoming Seminary

Coach of the Year

Mercatili led the Blue Knights to their first WVC and District 2 championships in 14 seasons. Wyoming Seminary set three records and won seven events at districts. The Blue Knights were eighth in the PIAA team standings.
