The Avoca Neighborhood Crime Watch, started on Oct. 4, now has 50 members and continues to grow, said President Jim Brogan. The group recently purchased signs and installed them in various locations throughout the town. The group has been getting five new members each month, he said. Our goal at this time is to register as many residents as possible and work on making Avoca as safe and clean as possible by working with council and the police department, Brogan said. The group plans to incorporate as a non-profit organization. The Crime Watch is operating on donations by members and businesses, and received a $50 check from Joe Colarusso's Café on Main Street. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the borough building. Shown in the photo, first row, from left, are Ned Jones, vice president, Jim Allardyce, and Jim Brogan, president. Second row, from left, Avoca Police Officer Ken Salvo; Gene Philbin, secretary; Ed Karney, Joe Colarusso, Tom McLaughlin and Pat Hannon, board member. Absent from the photo are Avoca Police Chief Dave Homechek, Bill Kiesinger, Jim Corcoran, Jim Doran, Bill Joyce and Jeff Decker.
