Back Mountain Area Barons Big League team (17 and 18 year-olds) made up from players from Harvey’s Lake, Northwest and Back Mountain Little League, took fourth place in the Big League State tournament in Williamsport this past week.
The Barons represented District 31.
The Barons defeated District 28 (Exton area), 12-0, in the opening round.
Hunter Englehart, Konrad Kraszewski and Justin Cornell combined for the two-hit shutout. Englehart and Carson Baker had home runs and Bryan Mathers and Mark Malloy added two hits and two RBI each.
District 15 (Athens area) defeated the Barons, 10-4, to send them into the elimination round. Carson Baker had three hits and Marc Noyalis had two hits. Justin Cornell took the loss.
Barons defeated District 17 (North Pocono area), 11-5. Zack Dirsa got the win. Hunter Englehart and Marc Noyalis had three hits while Zack Yursha had two hits.
District 28 defeated Barons, 8-7, to knock them out off the tournament. Englehart had two hits and Steve Olshemski added two RBIs. Joe Murray took the loss.
The Barons qualified for the state tournament by defeating a combined team from West Side, Plymouth and Greater Wyoming Little League.
Barons won the first game, 9-1, behind the pitching of Hunter Englehart who struck out 15 in six innings. Joe Murray had two hits and three RBIs. Steve Olshemski and Carson Baker had two hits and two RBIs each.
Barons scored eight runs in the top of the first to cruise to a 17-7 five-inning win in the second game.
Kyle Caffrey had a three-run triple in the first. Caffrey went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, including a double and triple. TJ Stepanski had three hits with 2 RBI and a triple. Oshemski and Baker had three hits and two RBI.
Justin Cornell got the win.
The Barons finished the season at 17-4.
