Emily Becker and James Dougherty were united in marriage Sept. 1, 2012, in an outdoor ceremony in the grove at The Woodlands Inn and Resort. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Ranch. He also married the bride's parents 30 years ago. A poem was read at both of the ceremonies from the bride's great-grandmother's wedding book from 1913.

The bride is the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Becker, Sweet Valley. She is the granddaughter of Margaret Becker, Berwick; the late Benjamin Becker; and the late Edward and Sadie Powell, Plymouth.

The groom is the son of James and Susan Dougherty, Mechanicsburg. He is the grandson of Joseph and Rebecca Dougherty, Warrington; Carole McCoy, Warminster; and the late James McCoy.

The bride was escorted down the aisle and given away by her father. The bride chose her best friend, Sara Chmura, as her maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Megan Kelsh, friend of the bride, and Katie Gerstner and Bridget Dougherty, sisters of the groom.

The groom chose his best friend, A.J. Laganosky, as his best man. Groomsmen were Christopher Carr and Jerry Livingston, friends of the groom, and Edward Becker, brother of the bride.

Following the ceremony, a cocktail hour and reception were held at The Woodlands Inn and Resort. Music was provided by D.J. Bob Loftus, friend of the bride, as a wedding gift. The bride was honored with a bridal shower given by her attendants and her mother at Andy's Diner, Plains Township. Her mother-in-law also hosted a shower for Emily at her beach house in Villas, N.J. The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner and a brunch the morning after the wedding at The Woodlands Inn and Resort.

Emily is a 2004 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and a 2008 graduate of Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and library science. She is employed as a teacher with Hildebrandt Learning Centers, Harrisburg.

Jim is a 2004 graduate of Trinity High School, Camp Hill, and a 2008 graduate of Penn State University, with Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and history. He is pursuing a master's degree in public administration from Penn State Harrisburg. He is employed as a research analyst with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

The couple completed their honeymoon cruise to Bermuda in late October. They reside in Enola, Pa.
