Allan Bellas has resigned his post as President of Wyoming Valley West School Board President, District Superintendent Chuck Suppon confirmed. Bellas sent a short letter dated Oct. 16 and received yesterday, Suppon said. The resignation will not be official until the board votes on accepting it, which Suppon said likely won't occur until the Nov. 4 meeting.
Bellas has agreed to plead guilty to corruption charges related to his former post as Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority Executive Director. He previously accepted a bribe in exchange for helping a developer get a tax break deal. The charges make no mention of WVW, but the plea agreement does require him to resign form the school board.
Bellas is up for re-election and unopposed in the Nov. 3 race, but it is too late to remove him from the ballot.
