CAMPS/CLINICS


 



Electric City Baseball & Softball Academy will hold its Annual MLB Scouts Winter Hitting League for boys and girls of all ages with the following instructors: Bobby Felmy (Giants), Matt Hyde (Yankees), Greg Legg (Phillies), Wayne Lydon (Blue Jays), Sean Moran (Cardinals) and Eric Valent (Phillies). Session one is on the following Sundays: Jan 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. or 4:45 p.m. 6:15 p.m. depending on age. Session two is the following Sundays: Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. or 4:45 p.m. 6:15 p.m. depending on age. The league is imited to 40 campers per session. Cost is $150. King's College will host two sessions of the Stars of Tomorrow prospect baseball camp on Sunday, Jan. 13. Both camps will be held from noon to 4 p.m. each day. The camp is for players in grades 7-12, who have the interest and desire to play collegiate and/or professional baseball. Players will also be exposed to the college recruiting process. King's College Baseball, along with current coach Jerry Greeley, a coach in the Baltimore Orioles organization, will host Jerry Greeley's Player Development Baseball Academy starting Jan. 27 and continuing through February in the new Scandlon Gymnasium Recreation Center. The academy offers numerous $10 specialty camps for players in grades K-12. Next Level, in Kingston, will hold a four-week hitting clinic starting Jan 20 and running until Feb 10. Each session is an hour and the cost is $90.



Wilkes Baseball will hold a Colonels Elite Baseball Prospect Program Feb. 23 and May 12 from 6-7:15 p.m. at the Marts Center for students with graduating years from 2013-16. Individual sessions cost $40, while all four sessions cost $150. For more information, call Vince Scalzo at 408-4777.



Wilkes Free Family Football Clinic will be Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Wilkes University Center on Main (UCOM) from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. The clinic is for all those interested from ages 5-12. Wilkes Softball Team will host its 13th annual Mid-Winter Softball Camp on Jan. 27, as well as Feb. 3, 10, 17, and 24. The camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Pitching will begin at 9 a.m., hitting at 10 a.m. and fielding at 11 a.m. The camp will be held in the University Center on Main (UCOM) building on Main Street and the Marts Center (gym) on Franklin Street. Wyoming Valley Laxerz will hold a second Lacrosse Clinic at the Greater Pittston YMCA on Sunday, Jan 20. Registration for the clinic will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the session will run from 10 p.m. until 11:30 a.m. Anyone who registered and attended the first clinic will not have to register again. Cost for each clinic is $20 a child with a family discount of $5 for each additional child. A $10 discount will be given to those who attended the first clinic in December.


 



LEAGUES


 



North East Tornadoes '04 Girls Soccer Team has several roster openings for eligible girls. The team is based in Plains and trains and plays year round locally as well as in travel and club tournaments and leagues. Girls born between Aug. 2004 and July 2005 are eligible. Duryea Little League will hold a monthly meeting on Sunday, Jan 6 at 7 p.m. at the VFW on Stephenson Street. Preparations for the upcoming season will be discussed. Signups for the upcoming season will be held on Jan 21,22,23,28 and 29 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Duryea Boro building located on Main Street.



Dupont Softball and Teeball will have an organizational meeting on Thursday, Jan 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dupont Borough Building. All coaches are asked to attend. Dallas Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship can now be registered for. Participants aged 10-14 are invited to the local level of competition to be held at the Gate of Heaven Gymnasium, 40 Machell Avenue starting at noon, on Saturday, Jan. 12. All boys and girls will compete in their respective age and gender divisions. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Rock Solid Basketball at the Rock Rec Sports Complex, 340 Carverton Road, Trucksville, announces its tryout dates for the 2013 AAU Girls and Boys season. On Sunday, Jan. 6 and 20, girls in grades 9 and 10 will try out from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.; girls in 7th and 8th grades will try out from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.; and girls in 5th and 6th grades will try out from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 13 and 27, 2013, boys in grades 9 and 10 will try out from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.; boys in 7th and 8th grades will try out from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.; and boys in 5th and 6th grade will try out from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The tryout fee is $10 per player.
