CAMPS/CLINICS


 



King's College will host two sessions of the Stars of Tomorrow prospect baseball camp on Sunday, Jan. 13. Both camps will be held from noon to 4 p.m. The camp is for players in grades 7-12 who want to play collegiate and/or professional baseball. Cost is $60 per session. A registration form can be obtained online on the King's baseball team page at www.kingscollegeathletics.com. King's College Baseball, along with current coach Jerry Greeley, will host Jerry Greeley's Player Development Baseball Academy starting Jan. 27 and continuing through February in the new Scandlon Gymnasium Recreation Center. The academy offers numerous $10 specialty camps for players in grades K-12. Misericordia Baseball Winter Academy will run five consecutive Sundays beginning Jan. 13 and will include sessions in hitting, throwing mechanics/pitching, and pitching. Penn State Baseball Clinic will be conducted by the division one coaching staff from Penn State University's main campus at the Electric City Baseball & Softball Academy for players of all ages on Saturday, Jan 12. from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Cost is $160 and limited to 40 campers. The Pace Setter Athletic Club of Northeastern Pa. is currently organizing an Adult Open Women's Basketball League at the Greater Pittston YMCA . MEETINGS


 



County Line Girls Softball League will have its kickoff meeting on Thursday, Jan.17 at 6:30pm in the Dupont Borough Building. All town and or team reps are asked to attend. Hanover Area Boys Basketball Booster Club will hold a Bar Night Fundraiser Jan. 12 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Major Leagues in Sugar Notch.



Hughestown Sports Club will meet on Sunday, Jan. 13 at Granteeds in Pittston at 2:30 p.m. Reservations for season tickets for next year will be taken and anyone interested in season tickets should attend the meeting or contact any club member. Jenkins Township Little League will have a meeting Sunday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Jenkins Township Municipal Building. Registration and 2013 season preparation will be discussed. All officers and interested parents are requested to attend.



South Wilkes-Barre Baseball board members will meet at the Riverside Café, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. General meeting will be at 6:30 p.m.


 



REGISTRATIONS/TRYOUTS


 









Knights of Columbus Council 12976 Free Throw Championship will be held Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Kingston Recreational Center starting at 4:15 p.m. Registration and warm ups will begin at 4 p.m. All those interested between the ages of 10 and 14 must provide a birth certificate at the registration. Knights of Columbus Dallas Council Free Throw Championship can now be registered for. Participants aged 10-14 are invited to the local level of competition to be held at the Gate of Heaven Gymnasium, 40 Machell Avenue starting at noon, on Saturday, Jan. 12. All boys and girls will compete in their respective age and gender divisions. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Knights of Columbus Council 302 Free Throw Championship will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Wyoming Valley CYC at 7 p.m. Boys and girls aged 10-14 are eligible to participate. Registration and warm-ups begin at 6:45 p.m. Bring proof of age. For more information call 262-3873.



Knights of Columbus Plymouth Council 984 Free Throw Championship will be at West Side Area Vocational Technical School in Pringle on Sunday, Jan 27. The contest is open to boys and girls 10-14 years of age. Proof of age is required. Registration will start at 12:30 p.m. and end at 1 p.m. Questions can be directed to Kevin at 287-1889.



Knights of Columbus Luzerne Council Free Throw Championship can now be registered for. Participants aged 10-14 must present proof of age and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The contest will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 starting at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton gymnasium on Hughes Street in Swoyersville. For more information, call John Duesler at 288-1776.



Moosic Mets Baseball will be holding tryouts for players ages 8-17 at Electric City Baseball Academy 733 Davis St. Scranton, PA. Ages 8-11 will be held Sunday Jan.13 (6:30-8:30pm) and Wednesday Jan. 16 (6-8pm). Ages 15-17 will be held Saturday Jan. 19 (10am-12pm) and Wednesday Jan. 23 (6-8pm). Ages 12-14 will be held Sunday Jan. 20 (2-4pm) and Thursday Jan. 24 (6-8pm). Players need only attend one of the two try-outs per age division. Cost is $10. Nanticoke Area Little League's next sign up dates are Jan. 19 and 20 at the Education Center Cafeteria from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Baseball and fastpitch softball are offered for boys and girls 4-16 yrs old. Players from Nanticoke, Newport Township and Plymouth Township are welcome. Three proofs of residency dated between Feb.1,2012 and Feb.1,2013 are needed. New players need birth certificate. South Valley Girls Softball will hold registration for the upcoming season. Girls from Nanticoke, Newport, Hunlock Creek area are invited to join. Sign-up will be held Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hunlock Creek Fire Hall and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Newport Township Fire Hall. Swoyersville Slow Pitch Girls Softball will hold signups Jan. 12 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 19 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Jan. 22 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan 26 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Feb. 5 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Feb 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Signups will be held at the softball field in the stand on Tripp St. in Swoyersville. Wilkes University Futsal Frenzy Soccer Tournament at Wilkes is accepting registrations. The tournament will be held Sunday, Jan. 13 with all games beginning at 10 a.m. at Wilkes University's UCOM building, found at 169 South Main St. The registration cost is $150 for team, additional teams from the same high school are $125. Penn State Wilkes-Barre is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics. The qualified person will plan and direct team during all practices and games; recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes; emphasize academic success to student-athletes; supervise assistant coaches; and promote the soccer program. This is a part-time, fixed-term 2 position. Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of successful coaching and/or playing experience is required. Applicant must be at least 25 years old. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
