CAMPS/CLINICS


 



King's College Baseball will help host Jerry Greeley's Player Development Baseball Academy starting Jan. 27 and continuing through February in the new Scandlon Gymnasium Recreation Center. The academy offers numerous $10 specialty camps for players in grades K-12. Sandlot High School Baseball Camp for girls and boys ages 7-12 will run for six weeks every Saturday and Sunday beginning Jan. 26 until Mar. 3. Saturdays will run from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.or 12:15 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. and Sundays 2:15 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Participants are to pick one session. Sessions include hitting, pitching, fielding, and catching. Cost is $150. Call 445-1155 or email cdd027@aol.com to register.



Wilkes Softball Team will host its 13th annual Mid-Winter Softball Camp on Jan. 27, as well as Feb. 3, 10, 17, and 24. The camp will run from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Pitching will begin at 9 a.m., hitting at 10 a.m. and fielding at 11 a.m. The camp will be held in the University Center on Main (UCOM) building on Main Street and the Marts Center (gym) on Franklin Street. LEAGUES


 



Kingston Recreation Center Softball League registration is underway. There are eight teams for all men's leagues, including Sunday morning, and 12 teams for the Sunday co-ed league. If paid by Feb. 17, the fee is $250. The fee after that date is $275. Also a wooden bat league is set for Fridays and the cost is $125.


 



MEETINGS


 



Checkerboard Inn Golf League will have a meeting Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Checkerboard Inn in Trucksville. Plans and dates for the upcoming season will be discussed and dues will be collected. League play will be held at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course. All members should attend to reserve their place in the league. Coughlin Baseball Booster Club will have a meeting today at 6:30 p.m. at the PAV located on Oak Street in Hudson. Election of officers and planning for the upcoming 2013 season will be addressed. For more information, call Mario at 479-4389 after 5:30 p.m.



Crestwood Lacrosse Booster Club will have a meeting for parents Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Crestwood Middle School/High School cafeteria. The meeting will focus on fundraising ideas and activities that will occur throughout the season. All parents of players are encouraged to attend. Meyers Quarterback Club will be holding its monthly meeting on Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at Kris Nics bar and restaurant. All parents and alumni are welcomed to attend.



Pittston Area Lady Patriot Basketball Booster Club will meet Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Pittston Area High School. All Lady Patriot Basketball Parents are invited to attend.


 



REGISTRATIONS/TRYOUTS


 



Ashley/Hanover Girls Fastpitch Softball will hold its first registration for this season next weekend. Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hanover Memorial high school and Jan. 27 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the LCC College gym. The cost is $50 plus fundraiser (buyout $35). All girls that reside in Luzerne County ages 6 to 16 are eligible. First time registrants must bring a copy of a birth certificate. For info call Bernie at 239-3627 or Hank at 328-2643.




Dupont Softball/Teeball will have signups on Thursday Jan. 24 and 31 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Dupont Boro Bldg. No boundary restrictions and is open to all children. Teeball- boys and girls ages 4 to 7 is $25 per player. Softball- ages 7 to 17 is $50 per player. There are family discounts for softball only. No mandatory fundraisers required. Duryea Little League will hold sign-ups for all Boys and Girls divisions today, Tuesday, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 29 and 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Duryea Borough Building. The cost is $55 per player and $75 per family. Cost for Junior and Senior League players are separate and is $75 per player.



Jenkins Township Little League Registration will be held at 2 p.m. at the Jenkins Township Municipal Building Jan. 27. League Sign Up Fees are: $75 for Majors/Minors Baseball/Softball, $65 for Coach Pitch, and $50 for T-Ball, $85 for Teeners. Additional child is $30 for Majors, Minors, Coach Pitch and T-Ball. There is no rebate for Teeners. Please bring copy of child's Birth Certificate which can be kept on file, 3 Proofs of Residency, Registration Form, Medical Release Form, and Volunteer Application Form along with your payment. Kingston/ Forty Fort Little League will hold registration for all baseball and softball divisions on Tuesday Jan. 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kingston American Legion (Wyoming Avenue-next to Kost Tire). A copy of a birth certificate (for all new players) and copies of three proofs of residency dated between Feb. 1, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013 are required. Interested managers and coaches should bring a copy of a driver's license and must apply at this registration. Moosic Mets Baseball will be holding tryouts for players ages 8-17 at Electric City Baseball Academy 733 Davis St. Scranton, PA. Ages 15-17 will be Wednesday, Jan. 23 (6 -8 p.m.). Ages 12-14 will be held today (2 – 4 p.m.) and Thursday, Jan. 24 (6 – 8 p.m.). Players need only attend one of the two try-outs per age division. Cost is $10. Mountain Top Area Legion Baseball will hold registrations for the 2013 season Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. at Post 781 in Mountain Top. Boys ages 13-18 residing in Wright, Fairview, Dorrance, Hollenback, Dennison, Rice and Slocum Townships as well as Nuangola Borough, Penn Lake Park and White Haven Borough are eligible to register. Players registering must be accompanied by one parent and bring their health insurance information along with a copy of their birth certificate. Plymouth Girls Softball will hold signups for girls ages 6 through 16 on Jan. 24 and 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Feb. 9 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Plymouth Borough Building. Rock Solid Basketball at the Rock Rec Sports Complex, 340 Carverton Road, Trucksville, announces its tryout dates for the upcoming AAU Boys season. On Sunday, Jan. 27, boys in grades 9 and 10 will try out from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.; boys in grades 7 and 8 will try out from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.; and boys in grades 5 and 6 will try out from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The tryout fee is $10 per player. Swoyersville Slow Pitch Girls Softball will hold signups Jan. 22 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Feb. 5 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Signups will be held at the softball field in the stand on Tripp St. in Swoyersville. Penn State Wilkes-Barre is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics. The qualified person will plan and direct team during all practices and games; recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes; emphasize academic success to student-athletes; supervise assistant coaches; and promote the soccer program. This is a part-time, fixed-term 2 position. Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of successful coaching and/or playing experience is required. Applicant must be at least 25 years old.
