CAMPS/CLINICS


 



King's College Baseball will help host Jerry Greeley's Player Development Baseball Academy starting Jan. 27 and continuing through February in the new Scandlon Gymnasium Recreation Center. The academy offers numerous $10 specialty camps for players in grades K-12. Kingston Recreation Center will have golf lessons for adults and children from ages 10 to 17 on consecutive Sundays beginning March 4. Children's lessons are from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Adults' lessons run from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost for members is $40, while the cost for non-members is $50. Space is limited. Sandlot High School Baseball Camp for girls and boys ages 7-12 will run for six weeks every Saturday and Sunday beginning Jan. 26 until Mar. 3. Saturdays will run from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.or 12:15 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. and Sundays 2:15 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Participants are to pick one session. Sessions include hitting, pitching, fielding, and catching. Cost is $150. Call 445-1155 or email cdd027@aol.com to register.


 



LEAGUES


 



Kingston Recreation Center Softball League registration is underway. There are eight teams for all men's leagues, including Sunday morning, and 12 teams for the Sunday co-ed league. If paid by Feb. 17, the fee is $250. The fee after that date is $275. Also a wooden bat league is set for Fridays and the cost is $125.


 



MEETINGS


 



Checkerboard Inn Golf League will have a meeting Monday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Checkerboard Inn in Trucksville. Plans and dates for the upcoming season will be discussed and dues will be collected. League play will be held at Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course. All members should attend to reserve their place in the league. Crestwood Boys Basketball Booster Club will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4th at Cavanaugh's Grille.



Crestwood Lacrosse Booster Club will have a meeting for parents Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Crestwood Middle School/High School cafeteria. The meeting will focus on fundraising ideas and activities that will occur throughout the season. All parents of players are encouraged to attend. GAR Football Booster Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Choral Room at the high school.



GAR Football Awards Banquet will be held on Sunday, Jan 27 at 1 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Doors will open at 12 p.m. There will be a buffet luncheon and a presentation of awards. Cost is 10$ for adults and 5$ for children ages 7 through 12. Children age 6 and under get in free. Cost includes luncheon and beverages.



Meyers Quarterback Club will be holding its monthly meeting on Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at Kris Nics bar and restaurant. All parents and alumni are welcomed to attend.



Pittston Area Lady Patriot Basketball Booster Club will meet Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Pittston Area High School. All Lady Patriot Basketball Parents are invited to attend.

REGISTRATIONS/TRYOUTS


 




Dupont Softball/Teeball will have signups on Thursday, Jan. 24 and 31 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Dupont Borough Bldg. There are no boundary restrictions, the league is open to all children. Teeball for boys and girls ages 4 to 7 is $25 per player. Softball for players ages 7 to 17 is $50 per player. There are family discounts for softball only. No mandatory fundraisers required. Kingston/ Forty Fort Little League will hold registration for all baseball and softball divisions today from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kingston American Legion (Wyoming Avenue-next to Kost Tire). A copy of a birth certificate (for all new players) and copies of three proofs of residency dated between Feb. 1, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013 are required. Interested managers and coaches should bring a copy of a driver's license and must apply at this registration. Moosic Mets Baseball will be holding tryouts for players ages 8-17 at Electric City Baseball Academy 733 Davis St. Scranton, PA. Ages 15-17 will be Wednesday, Jan. 23 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ages 12-14 will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Players need only attend one of the two try-outs per age division. Cost is $10. Mountain Top Area Legion Baseball will hold registrations for the 2013 season Thursday, Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. at Post 781 in Mountain Top. Boys ages 13-18 residing in Wright, Fairview, Dorrance, Hollenback, Dennison, Rice and Slocum Townships as well as Nuangola Borough, Penn Lake Park and White Haven Borough are eligible to register. Players registering must be accompanied by one parent and bring their health insurance information along with a copy of their birth certificate. Mountain Top Area Little League Baseball and Softball will be offering sign ups on the following dates for the upcoming season. Baseball & Softball programs for boys and girls ages 6 through 16, must turn 6 by April 30 in order to play. Rock Solid Basketball at the Rock Rec Sports Complex, 340 Carverton Road, Trucksville, announces its tryout dates for the upcoming AAU Boys season. On Sunday, Jan. 27, boys in grades 9 and 10 will try out from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.; boys in grades 7 and 8 will try out from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.; and boys in grades 5 and 6 will try out from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The tryout fee is $10 per player. The Next Level, in conjunction with Team Diesel (CPT), will be offering a strength and conditioning program focused on baseball. Penn State Wilkes-Barre is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics. The qualified person will plan and direct team during all practices and games; recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes; emphasize academic success to student-athletes; supervise assistant coaches; and promote the soccer program. This is a part-time, fixed-term 2 position. Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of successful coaching and/or playing experience is required. Applicant must be at least 25 years old. Wilkes University Women's Soccer head coach John Sumoski has announced that registration for the 1st annual Futsal Fever soccer tournament at Wilkes is now open. Interested high school girls teams can register by completing the application and sending a check made out to Wilkes University to Wilkes University, c/o John Sumoski, 84 West South St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18766.The tournament begins Sunday, March 10 at 10 a.m. The games will be played at Wilkes University's UCOM Building located at 169 South Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The fee is $150 per team and additional teams from the same high school are $125. There is no limit on roster sizes. Each roster may have two guest players from out of district.
