BLOOMSBURG -- A carpet company in Bloomsburg played a role in Monday's inauguration ceremonies at the U.S. Capitol.

Bloomsburg Carpet supplied a 500-square-yard woven wool carpet to the inauguration planners that was installed and walked on by President Barack Obama.

Company Executive Vice President Marty Bowman said the company shipped the carpet Jan. 8 and was told it was being used as part of the inauguration ceremonies but wasn't given the details as to where it was being installed other than in the Capitol. The company already has a presence in that building as the floors of both the U.S. House and Senate are covered in Bloomsburg Carpet Co. product.

Bowman did not disclose how much the carpet was sold for other than to say the multicolored pattern, which uses red as a dominant hue, usually retails for between $60 and $70 per square yard.

Most carpets are tufted, but Bloomsburg is one of the last companies that makes the woven wool carpet, which he said higher-end establishments including Radio City Music Hall, Ritz Carlton hotels, Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Carnegie Hall and the Orlando International Airport, all use.

The 36-year-old company has been supplying the carpet for the U.S. Capitol complex for 30 years and we've replaced it numerous times since.

He said a design firm the company deals with in Washington got a call from the inauguration team and contacted Bloomsburg Carpet to fulfill the order. Bowman theorized based on the specifications and size of the carpet that it is being used in a corridor or hallway, but he wasn't told the exact details.
