Cathay crew threaten no smiles, booze on flights

(AP) Flight attendants at Hong Kong airline Cathay Pacific are threatening to withhold food, alcohol and even smiles from passengers during the Christmas holidays over a pay dispute.

Staff voted at a union meeting this week in favor of industrial action that could also result in flight delays.

The airline has offered a 2 percent pay increase for next year but the union wants 5 percent.

The union's general secretary said Thursday an announcement is expected soon on when the approved in the vote will be carried out.

Other measures being considered include not greeting passengers boarding the plane and strictly enforcing size limits on hand luggage.

The union said it's also considering a strike as a last resort, but not until the new year.
