GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Goldsboro police say a child died in a wreck after the car she was in crashed at an intersection where Hurricane Irene had knocked out power to the traffic lights.

Police Capt. Chad Calloway said several other people were taken to the hospital after the crash around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Calloway did not have the name, age or gender of the victim and he did not know the conditions of the others involved in the wreck.
Calloway says the wreck likely would not have happened if the traffic signals were working.
The death is the second in North Carolina blamed directly on the storm. A man was killed in Nash County earlier Saturday when a tree limb fell on him outside his home.
