The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Pennsylvania will present its 15th annual education and research conference from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 15 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, 1280 Highway 315, Plains Township. The conference, hosted by the northeast regional office, will feature four speakers who will address the needs of those living with late-stage dementia.
Leading the presentations will be Dr. J Kenneth Brubaker, chief medical officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging's Office of Long Term Living. The program will be aimed at professional and personal caregivers. Fees are $75 for professionals; $30 for family caregivers. Student rates are also available. Allied Services Integrated Health System Home Health Division will sponsor a diabetes-education session from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday in the patient dining room at John Heinz, 150 Mundy St., Wilkes-Barre. There will be no session in December.

The Lung Cancer Alliance Pennsylvania Chapter with conduct its Shine A Light on Lung Cancer Vigil from 7- 9 p.m. Nov. 13 in the lobby and courtyard at The Commonwealth Medical College. The campaign to raise awareness and support for lung cancer is being held in conjunction with 125 vigils across the nation.
This year's vigil organizer is Dr. Karen Arscott, a lung cancer survivor.
In observance of November as National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month, Oakwood Terrace, 400 Gleason Drive, Moosic, will sponsor the following events:
• National Commemorative Candle Lighting at 1 p.m. Friday. Caregivers, family and friends are invited to share memories and light candles of care to remember and honor those whose lives have been touched by Alzheimer's and other memory loss diseases. Refreshments will be served.
• Free memory screenings from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 13. Reservations are required and screenings times are limited. For reservations, call Sylvia at 451-3171, ext. 116.
