WILKES-BARRE – A New York state man was sentenced Thursday to five to 10 years in state prison for his participation in a heroin drug ring and for torturing a teen boy by cutting him with scissors and pouring cleaning solvents on his wounds.

Daniel Davenport, 25, of West Hempstead, pleaded guilty before Luzerne County Judge Lewis Wetzel to charges including aggravated assault, possession with intent to deliver, corrupt organization and intimidation of witnesses, stemming from four separate cases.

Wetzel then sentenced Davenport to five to 10 years in prison on each charge concurrently, a sentence agreed upon by state Deputy Attorney General Tim Doherty, Davenport and his attorney, Vincent Cappellini.

The case was also prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jill Matthews Lada.
