Debate teams compete in tournament

The Meyers Speech and Debate team split its squad in tournament competition the first weekend of December. The team, except for the policy debaters, competed in the opening tournament of the Catholic Forensic League of Scranton at Dimock on Dec. 1 and the policy debaters competed at the Electric City Invitational in Scranton on Dec. 1-2. At Elk Lake, the team won three events. Emmalie Langan won varsity extemporaneous speaking. Julia Kerr won varsity congress and Aria Mason won novice extemporaneous speaking. Samantha Middleton placed second in varsity original oratory. In novice oral interpretation, Megan Welles placed second, James Langan finished third and Elsa Romero placed third. Joseph Franckiewicz took fifth place in novice original oratory. Maria Franckiewicz won a room in preliminary competition in novice oral interpretation.
