ALLENTOWN — Bruce Fritch said he's seen horrific things in his time at the Lehigh County Humane Society, but nothing like the 11 animals skinned to the bone found Friday afternoon near a Lower Macungie Township park.

Pennsylvania state police said Saturday that 11 juvenile dogs were found in a bag on Quarry Road near Lower Magungie Township Park. An autopsy on the animals Monday showed that they may be baby foxes. Further testing was needed to verify the results, according to Fritch.

It's not good no matter how you look at it, Fritch said.

Fritch pledged $1,000 of his own money as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. David Lee, the co-founder of Lehigh Valley Pitbull Awareness Club, said his group has raised $6,000 toward a reward in the case.

There is no rationale, Fritch said of the killing and skinning of the animals, some of which were found in a plastic bag, except for wanton, wanton cruelty.

Fritch said the dead animals were taken to the society's shelter in Allentown, and an investigation is under way.

The animals were discovered Friday afternoon.

Kevin Hearst, an animal cruelty investigator for Dekalb County, Ga., and an instructor for the University of Missouri's National Animal Cruelty Investigators school, said he's also never heard of so many animals being skinned and left for dead. Hearst said investigators sometimes find one animal skinned by a juvenile, or maybe an adult practicing a hunting skill.

One, I got it, Hearst said. To do all 11, that's extreme.

He said he's seen dogs and cats mutilated, electrocuted, even microwaved, but he said finding 11 skinned animals — foxes, coyotes or otherwise — is novel, and awful.

Down here in Georgia we see some weird stuff, Hearst said, but nothing like this. It seems like torture.
