Elizabeth M. Betty (Klinger) Long, 85, of Benton, was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Jan. 16, 2013 at Bonham Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since Nov. 16.
Betty, as she was known and loved by many, was a treasured mother, nana and grand-nana to her loving family.
Born May 9, 1927 in Sugarloaf Township, she was a daughter of the late Helen Klinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. Long, on Dec, 22, 1999.
Betty was a homemaker; owned Betty's Fabric in Broadway; was a friendly face at the former Longs Hardware, in Sweet Valley and Shickshinny. She was also known for baking those famous Betty's Pies for the Pine Cone Restaurant in Shickshinny.
She was an active volunteer at Bonham Nursing Center and also was active in her church, Benton Christian Church.
Surviving are her three children, Richard H. Long and his wife, Elre, Shavertown; Bonnie S. Evans and her husband, Barry, Sweet Valley; Eric D. Long and his wife, Joan, Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Cathy Gaspard, Cheryl Lipsky, Seth Long and Elijah Long; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Norah Lipsky; a sister, Barbara White, Louisville, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, Wayne, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christy Elston, in 1993; a brother, Harry Thomas; and a sister, Emily Lantz.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487) with the Rev. Dr. David Mansfield, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. A viewing will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
