(AP) The euro is rising against the dollar after an index of German investor optimism rose more than expected in December.

Traders also are watching the U.S. Federal Reserve, which began a two-day policy meeting Tuesday. Some economists expect the Fed to announce a new bond-buying plan to boost the economy.

The euro rose to $1.3007 in afternoon trading from $1.2938 late Monday.

The British pound rose to $1.6110 from $1.6071. The dollar slipped to 0.9327 Swiss franc from 0.9333 Swiss franc.

The dollar rose to 82.41 Japanese yen from 82.33 yen.
