CONYNGHAM - A fire that destroyed an apartment and a commercial complex on Sunday was intentionally set, state police at Hazleton said.

Flames ripped through the two-story Lantan Lane complex  at 314-31 S. Main St. early Sunday morning. Several tenants were rescued from the second floor and treated for smoke inhalation. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze.

Businesses on the first floor included the Falvello Law Firm, dental offices for Dr. Richard Grovich, and M&L Trucking, Inc.

An investigation by a state police deputy fire marshal determined the fire was intentionally set within the landing area of an enclosed stairway.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact state police at Hazleton at 459-3890.
